SOLD: Outstanding 1970 Jaguar Series II E-Type Fixed Head Coupe

Recommended Posts

SOLD:

1970 Jaguar Series II, 4.2 Liter, Fixed-Head Coupe. This is an outstanding car that was purchased by the current owner about 20 years ago. During his 20 years of ownership, he continually upgraded the car both cosmetically and mechanically and today the car is in excellent condition inside and out, front to rear, top to bottom. The car was painted about 15 years ago and the paint remains in excellent condition with an even gloss and no areas of wear or discoloration. The body panels are excellent with proper door, hood and trunk fit. Underneath the car, the floor pans, front and rear valances, door bottoms, spare well and sills are all excellent and show no signs of damage or repair. The interior of the car was recently replaced. The seats were recovered and still remain as new. The carpets, door panels, dash board, headliner, rear compartment, etc are also excellent. All of the gauges are crisp with clear faces.  The glass is also excellent with good gaskets and seals. The chrome trim is excellent inside and out. The overall fit, finish and appearance is great and the car presents extremely well.
What really separates this gorgeous looking car from the others is its mechanical condition. The entire drive train was rebuilt between 2008 and 2010 by the Jaguar experts at Muncie Imports in Muncie, Indiana. The original block was rebuilt top to bottom. In order to increase performance, a high performance head was installed with larger valves, increased compression and high performance cam shafts. The car is now fitted with the desirable three-carburetor system more often seen on Series I cars. It is estimated that this car now produces about 300 HP. To say this car is fast is an understatement. This car will easily accelerate to a smooth 90 miles an hour with plenty of unused horsepower remaining. Of course, at the time of the engine rebuild, the rest of the chassis was rebuilt including the clutch, brakes, steering, wheels, tires, etc. The car steers and brakes with precision and the transmission shifts easily up and down. The car does down the road straight and fast with no creeks, rattles or groans. It's really like driving a new car. All of the gauges and controls operate as they should. For long distance comfort, a modern air conditioning system has been installed which works amazingly well. The air conditioning makes driving this car a real pleasure on hot days and you won't get any complaints from your passenger.
The car retains both  its original data plates showing the car # of 1R27521, the body # of 4R23162, the engine number of 7R9816-9 and the gear box # of KE11085. It also retains its original B-pillar id plate. The mileage shown is about 55,000.
This car has always been meticulously maintained and stored in a climate-controlled, museum-like building. The current owner has aggressively driven the car thousands of trouble free miles. It has not been babied but still looks amazing inside and out. I have driven a lot of these E-types, and I can not express how different this car is compared to the others. Accompanying the sale of the car are detailed service and restoration records from 2008 until this summer which total in excess of 45,000.00.
This great E-type coupe is being offered at the conservative price of 69,500.00 and it is offered with a clear and current title. It is located near Indianapolis, Indiana and we welcome any interested parties to come inspect the car and take it for a test drive. Having driven a few E-Types lately, I'll say that if you like to drive and want to use your Jag, a Series II is the one to own. More torque, bigger foot boxes, effective A/C, improved switchgear, it all makes the car a lot easier to live with than a Series I. I personally LOVE the look of the FHC, even more than the roadster, and this one has a fantastic look in an ideal color.

I'm also confident that you could buy this car today and sell it in two years and make some money by doing nothing more than driving it. Awesome find!
