Turning Back Time Car Show (Sycamore IL)

We had some rain drops that kept a lot of people home. They normally have 800-900 cars. Today it was about 420.

They give away a trophy for the top 100. (Anybody can vote) So I had a chance and did get a top 100. (And I got a Spot-Free rinse!)

Bobcat set up a display at our local Steam Power Show. I took the morning shift. I got to drive One Bid to the car and truck show field. Then I sat and drank coffee, ate snacks all morning, talked to a bunch of old friends, customers and got paid for it!!!!

I have a problem!  My 4 year old granddaughter saw One Bid and wanted to go for a ride. I told her that the car does not have seat belts and I could not give her a ride in it. Her response was very simple. Take the car seat out of the other car and put it in this one! Then I had to try and explain that we needed seat belts to fasten the car seat. Then she looked at me and said, Grandpa why don’t you get some?

Now, what is the best way to properly install seat belts in a 1955 Buick Century 4dr hardtop?

Basically a very large flat washer/bolt that comes with the seatbelts you select. Drill through the floor. Certainly not the type of anchor you see in today's vehicles. Nevertheless I feel better with a lap belt. I got mine here.  They go well with a 50s era vehicle

@avgwarhawk told you all you need to know about installing lap belts. If you want to take it a step further like I did by installing shoulder belts, check out Juliano's website: https://www.julianos.com/Articles.asp?ID=143. They have examples of seat and shoulder belt installations on classic cars to give you ideas on how to do it. Here's how I dealt with shoulder belt pivot installation on my Skylark:

Lap belts are easy on your four-door hardtop.  Remove the front seat back so that you can run the belt between the cushion and the seat back. On that car there is a brace running from side to side that will be your anchor points. The only hard part will be the point over the muffler... hard to get to.

I'm interested in the placement of these. I have a 4 door 55 Roadmaster that I'm installing hood and fenders on and will be moving to do the interior soon. I have the seatbelts but will have to determine the same thing you are doing Mudbone. My interior is already removed so I just need to know locations for 4 lap belts. BTW, if you are not already aware, all the toddler car seats I have put in our cars have a strap with a hook to secure the head rest from going forward. The hooks secure to brackets already installed in today's cars. Take a look at how these hooks connect on modern cars to determine a bracket size needed. Infant car seats are a whole other thing with a double ended hook on a single strap that goes between the seat seam of the upper and lower portion of the seat. Infants face the back of the car while toddler's face forward. I believe I'm past having anymore infant grandchildren and just have to deal with toddler seats. They have all grown up watching me work on this car and expect a ride next year!
