Anzac Buick64
Hi GuysSo the progress continues on my 1939. We found more rust in the doors as we started on the paint so continued to remove it , Does anyone have a color photo of a car in the original of the "Zion Maroon" that was used on 1939 Buicks?. When our family had the car re sprayed 20 years ago the color that my late father in law used was a Ford/Mercury color called "Black Cherry". Does anyone have any details on this color? I would like to get a handle on the difference between the two coloursThe car was assembled in New Zealand from new and colors used down here may be slightly different to USA/North American colors I attach a few photos here of the work in progress. My avatar has a photo of the car as we started and there are a lot in my gallery. feel free to browse.CheersAndrewAnzac Buick 64BCA 47050wshopfeb (65).jpg (81.9 KB) DSC08506.jpg (131.7 KB) SAM_2299.jpg (85.9 KB) DSC08505.jpg (83.6 KB) DSC08504.jpg (98.7 KB) DSC08493.jpg (109.6 KB) DSC08487.jpg (91.9 KB) DSC08477.jpg (84.6 KB) DSC08456.jpg (113.2 KB) DSC08450.jpg (141.5 KB)

1939_Buick
There are 2 maroon '39's in Christchurch, Ross W & John T. As a wild guess both have probably repainted. Both are darker than your car. Will email you some photo's of both, but the John T car is an old photo that has been scanned. For me the maroon color is the best. NZ colors seem to be the same as USA. Aust colors were different Edited March 5, 2014 by 1939_buick (see edit history)
Guest Grant Magrath
Chevs and Buicks used the same colors in some cases, but with different names. Pop around to see my father when you're in town, We have original paint chips, and we've had some mixed up for my father's friend's 39 Chevy. It's a beautiful color, very dark red.CheersGrant

Guest Grant Magrath
You're right Allan. Ross's car is pretty close to the original Zion Red. His car still has the shipping brackets attached! The dealers were supposed to remove them, but his were left on. That has to be pretty rare!CheersGrant
