Bact to 27 comm. steering box lube

Recommended Posts

Thank you batwing eight. However, after just looking at steering box again all I can see are 2 grease fittings. But on the back side there is a 9/16 bolt, which I removed and it was on a larger nut that came off with it. Is it possible that this is the fill hole or is it for adjustment to the worm gear? I do have a parts manual and the service book and they are not clear at all about anywhere to add lube. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely; Commander Dave

The bolt with the locknut on it is an adjustment for end play. It bears against a ball bearing which sits in a recess in the sector shaft. If you are lucky that ball bearing will still be in place. If it fell out of the recess, the steering box will have to come apart to retrieve it.
