commander Dave
Thank you batwing eight. However, after just looking at steering box again all I can see are 2 grease fittings. But on the back side there is a 9/16 bolt, which I removed and it was on a larger nut that came off with it. Is it possible that this is the fill hole or is it for adjustment to the worm gear? I do have a parts manual and the service book and they are not clear at all about anywhere to add lube. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely; Commander Dave
Batwing-8
Dave: Again, I'm not familiar with your particular car, so hopefully another member will post with more specific info regarding your gearbox's fill-procedure.
studerex
If it had a nut on it, it is probably an adjustment. Post a photo.
commander Dave
Thank you all. I am embarrassed to say that I don't know how to put a picture on the computer. So I'll find out and post one. Thank you very much
dictator27
The bolt with the locknut on it is an adjustment for end play. It bears against a ball bearing which sits in a recess in the sector shaft. If you are lucky that ball bearing will still be in place. If it fell out of the recess, the steering box will have to come apart to retrieve it. :eek:Terry
commander Dave
Thank you dictator27 Checked for ball bearing and it's there. will leave adjustment alone because the old car steers pretty well for it's age. Thanks to everyone on forum for your help. Commander dave / From warm Alabama , where 2 nights ago it was 5 degrees!
