MY 1941 ART DECO 'BUICK' MODEL CAR HAULER

After completing the 1946 Buick parade float a few months ago I decided to build a enclosed model car hauler.

I found this rendering from an unknown artist, 'TRUCKS TO COME'.

The rendering was done in 1941, and was his/her vision of TRUCKS TO COME. Perfect to my model likings.

It is 26" long, holds two 18:1 scale Buick's. It is finished inside, has two non-skid paths, and a removable ramp. In the next posting I will reveal HOW I saluted Buick with this ramp.

It is mostly wood, and billet aluminum. The paint is rattle can lacquer over heavy fill automotive DuPont primer. I applied several thin coats of red, wet sanded with 600 grit, then after it was straight/smooth, I clear coated it. IMO you can do a great job with rattle cans on small jobs.

The final build and finish pictures will follow shortly.

It was a fun 200+ hour build, lots of thought since all I had was the pictures shown here in the first picture posting. No plans, drawing, instructions, or a kit, all from scratch.

Love dim dare Buick's,

Ok, here are a few of the build pic's, but enough for you to see the progress, and finished piece. Note the cab side door hadn't been glued in place with I took the pic.

Regarding the SALUTING of Buick when building the ramp. Note I designed it after the famous 'X' frame that Buick was so proud of. When Dad was with Buick in the early 40's Buick shipped to the dealership a rolling chassis, and signs pointed out the 'X' frame. That rolling chassis was a SITE TO SEE. I always loved it, sat on the temporary seat often as a young child of 5.

I am considering adding railings on the roof of this trailer to hold a couple more Buick's.
