Guest Dutchy
I have a 1949 Buick Super Sedanette. But I checked the engine number (57635385) and it looks like it is a 1950 engine (Buick Engine Identification 'til 1952), so I assume it is not original . Could anyone tell me what are the differences under the hood between the 1949 and 1950 models? Thanks!
Pete Phillips
From the exterior, 1949 and 1950 engines look exactly alike. Depending on whether they were standard shift engines or not, there might be an internal difference with mechanical versus hydraulic valve lifters, but the exterior will still be the same. critterpainter
There is one difference that comes to mind. They changed the water pump design. In 1949 the bypass hose between the water pump and thermostat housing was 1 7/8" in Dia. 1950 and up the hose size is 5/8".Bill
Guest Dutchy
As you can see in this picture there is a holder for the air cleaner unit on the valve cover:But I only have the elbow of a completely other air cleaner unit:I just bought the air cleaner element from eBay like in the picture above, but the intake silencer is missing, I am still looking for it.Can anyone tell when which air cleaning unit is used for the Buick Super?
