mbenseignant@gmail.com
Oil has started leaking through the hubcap on one rear wheel. Seals are NOT anywhere near the wheel, but are inside the differential housing. It looks to me as if there are 4 cotter pins which allow removal of a ring. The ring holds the seal in place. It feels brittle to the touch. I am guessing cork? I wonder if anyone has had success renewing this material, or perhaps smearing/filling it with modern gasket sealant. Of course I can remove and replace, but not without pulling the differential also. I am willing to do it, if it comes to that, but would not mind trying an easier fix to have me puttering around the neighbourhood this summer. Many thanks for reading and suggesting! Rusty_OToole
Industrial bearing supply stores can be found in any city, they can supply grease seals of all kinds. Take the old one in, it may have a number on it or they may have to measure it.
