Starter motor

My starter has always had trouble with a hot engine. It finally has died. Examining it reveals it is a Ford B10 with a drive that looks like Lincoln 5EH-11350. Is the Ford started not as strong as the Lincoln one? I don't know who put the Ford one on. I need a source for a Lincoln starter. Thanks.

Lincoln V12's use Ford starters. The late '47-'48 starter had a longer armature to accomodate the 5EH-11350 drive but the starter itself is the same as the Ford. the drive on yours that's similar to the 5EH may be the after market replacement drive used on the regular Ford starter. If your car originally came with the later type starter the flywheel lacks the proper clearance for the regular Bendix spring drive used on all Fords.

I can help you out with your starter problems. I can provide you with a starter, but I usually prefer to rebuild yours. I usually convert these starters with high torque windings to help deal with the problems you are complaining of. It allows you to keep the original case and appearance while upgrading the performance. Feel free to contact me by email or phone for more information.

Thanks Dee. I have the heavy cables and had replaced the solenoid. With the new engine rebuild- last one not done right- the engine was heating too much as before so now I have had the radiator recored. The starter has failed so am going to get it rebuilt. I also have a new battery. It is one thing after another. I hope the starter will be the last!
