Guest Frankie Schotts
Hi. I just purchased a 1964 Riviera and am new to the forum. My Riv does not have seat belts. I would like to add front seat belts. Does anyone know if the floor of the car came equipped with the iron plates that the seat belts would anchor to? Or do I have to have something welded under the floor? There are no seat belt predrilled holes from what I can tell. Thanks
D Yaros
All auto manufacturers had to incorporate seat belt mounts, for lack of a better term by 1964. So, they should be there. In fact, I thought that by '64 the feds had mandated providing the front seat belts?
Guest Bob Call
1964 should have had lap belts. Someone may have removed them.
joe_padavano
I thought 1965 was the first year for mandated front lap belts. In any case, GM had factory-installed inserts for front belts as early as the 1962 model year, maybe earlier.
Larry Schramm
I believe that 1963 might have been the first or second year for front seat belts only. I had a 1963 Buick Special that had front seat belts. 2 sets, one for the driver and one for the passenger. No center seat belt.
D Yaros
In the later part of the 1964 model year, lap belts were mandated on all U.S. cars. Shoulder belts were mandated for the 1968 model year.Ford first offered front lap belts as an option in 1955.Seat belt mounts, as opposed to actual belts, were mandated in 1962 I believe? Guest Frankie Schotts
I found the holes for the seatbelts. Also Wesco Performance was very helpful and reasonable. Thanks to all on the forum for your help. It is greatly appreciated. Does anyone know a good source to replace all the hoses that attach to the heater defroster console behind the dash and then go to the engine compartment? Mine have all disintegrated or been eaten by mice.
