Guest llamalor2112
Alright, so our 88 has always had a reasonably rough idle but recently it has become far worse. So I went ahead and cleaned the throttle body but to no avail, or rather its very torquey and happy below 20mph but it has no acceleration above that, very flat and lifeless. Moreover, idle has become very erratic. Today I turned it on and it sustained an idle of around 2200rpms. Not good, so I shut it off. Turned on again twice and both times it was struggling very hard to maintain low idle. First 883rpms and then 750rpms. I recorded the code values from theses two tests below and would greatly appreciate any help :confused:ED01 Throttle Position---------------0.42 -- 0.42ED04 Coolant Temperature-------------60 -- 83ED06 Injector Pulse Width------------5.30 -- 4.7ED07 Oxygen Sensor Voltage-----------0.09 -- 0.09ED08 Spark Advance-------------------21 -- 20ED10 Battery Voltage-----------------14.1 -- 13.8ED11 Engine RPM----------------------883 -- 750ED12 Car Speed-----------------------0 -- 0ED16 ESC (Knock Retard)--------------0 -- 0ED17 OLDPA3 (Knock Sensor Activity)--9999 -- 9999ED18 Oxygen Sensor Cross Counts------0 -- 0ED19 Fuel Integrator-----------------128 -- 155ED20 BLM-----------------------------155 -- 155ED21 Air Flow------------------------5.6 -- 3.9ED22 IAC-----------------------------55 -- 28ED23 MAT (ATS)-----------------------29 -- 36ED98 Ignition Cycle Counter----------2 -- 2ED99 ECM PROM ID---------------------2544 -- 2544 LOOP----Y -- YTCC-----N -- NOXY-----Y -- YEGR-----N -- N4TH-----N -- N3RD-----N -- N2ND-----N -- NCOMP----N -- NConditions: Outside Temperature------51 F Transmission-------------ParkOh and no ses codes except the intermittent Cruise Control Disengaged code... Guest llamalor2112
UPDATEJust took it out for a quick spirited drive. 2seater
Do you ever get O2 sensor cross counts? After warmup, either accelerate the engine to 1500 rpm or so in park/neutral for maybe 30 seconds or so, or just drive and observe. Either the O2 sensor is asleep from extended idle, defective or if the reading is correct, it is dead rich. Most readings look pretty nominal, but the two fuel indicators are at the top of the range adding fuel. It is somewhat normal for the readings to go toward the high side on an extended idle, but they are at the top. What is your fuel pressure? Poor/erratic idle with poor higher rpm performance sounds like it could be a failing fuel pump or possibly plugged filter. There could be other causes, poor ignition causing misfire which will affect the exhaust O2 quality.
Guest Mc_Reatta
Agree, only thing that jumps out is the dead O2 sensor. That could be the root cause or not but definitely a big part of it. Replace and recheck voltage and cross counts. Once you get that fixed, if there are other issues they will be easier to ferret out. May need to clean the plugs too if running rich for awhile now. Guest Corvanti
i'd also want to replace the O2 sensor: O2 Sensor Diagnosis - Reatta Owners Journal also check your fuel pressure PSI (should be around 42psi at idle), to rule that out as a causal factor. padgett
When it was running bad, the knock counts (old PA3) were through the roof. That would have automagically retarded the spark/no power. Also the fuel is max rich because the O2 sensor is thoroughly ex. Fix the O2 first then lets check for knock (is usually a burst on cold start then nada after.) Guest llamalor2112
O2 sensor ordered! Will update when I get it in! Thanks so much guys!
2seater
Fuel pressure should be low 40's with key on and engine off, or idling with the vacuum disconnected from the regulator. With everything connected and idling, it should be in the mid-upper 30's.
