Guest Steeleco
I am replacing my oil sensor with one that has the regular hook up for the light and has an extra "switch" I plan to use for an electric choke conversion. Here is my question: As I am using Brass 1/4 FPT to 1/8 MPT adaptor to accomodate the different size of the new sensor, when I theread it into the engine do I need to use any sealant etc? Thanks
Dales90
SteeleI am a firm believer, if there is any oil, anti-freeze, fuel line, sensor, fitting, sealant can only help.if any of the above is under pressure, it is necesssary. My sealant of choice is Permatex #2, black, nasty, hard to clean my hands, but NEVER have has a leak when using it.Good luck with your upgrade!!Dale

RivNut
Just make sure that you don't get any of that nasty stuff where it will interfer with the readings. Telflon tape works well in these situation. It will seal air fittings on pnuematic tools - air is thinner than oil and the tools are under much more pressure.Ed Edited March 3, 2013 by RivNut (see edit history)
1965rivgs
Use a teflon thread sealant. It comes in a tube and has the consistency of tooth paste. The tape will work but some folks get confused as to the correct direction to apply it (believe it or not it is an easy mistake to make!) and I have seen the tape block the opening to a pressure sensor if not properly wrapped or when a piece breaks off.
