Guest vacabill
I have a 1932 Olds 6cyl, just bought it, runs good asked previous owner what he used for engine oil and transmission, he said, he bought the car with the oil thats in it, and didnt know anything about itMy question do I use Non detergent or detergent sae 30 and what goes in the transmission the owner manual says a type of mineral oil with soap. I found this on another site and I don't know what kind of babbit bearings it hasOil Recommendation for Early Engines<o:p></o>For early engines, please determine whatbearings with which your engine is equipped before trying new oils. It is verypossible that the additives of ANY modern (as in not non-detergent SA) engineoil would have a negative impact on non-tin/lead babbitt bearings. If theengine has tin/lead babbitt or shell insert bearings, any modern oil would likelybe suitable. Shell insert bearings were introduced around 1933<o:p></o>
herm111
I would use 30 Wt. detergent summer, and 20Wt. detergent winter. Change oil every 800 miles.

herm111
In 1935 they were calling for 140 Wt. Summer, and 90 Wt. in winter. But I think I would leave it 140 if it is in a heated garage, or if you don't drive it in the winter.
Rusty_OToole
There are firms that specialize in oils for antique cars. Here is one, there are others if you do a web search. I know nothing about this company or their products, it turned up in a quick search so I thought I would post it as an example.Classic Car Motor Oil
