Oldsfan
I read an article in a well known magazine recently that credited Buick with offering an AM-FM radio in 1940. I had never heard of this. Can someone confirm this and provide more information? I thought the first car to offer AM-FM was the '58 Lincoln.Paul
FLYER15015
Paul,Mine came w/ AM only, and it's a "bear" to set the push buttons precisely on the station.I don't think they had enough FM stations back then to warrant both bands in cars.Back in the early '50's we were building crystal sets to pick up AM stations, and had not heard of FM.Need some experts to jump in here.Mike in Colorado
Grandpa
Paul, FM radios, as optional equipment, did not appear in cars until the 1960s. In 1941 and 1942 Buick offered the Super Sonomatic radio which had the regular broadcast AM band plus four shortwave bands (AM / 16m, 19m, 25m, & 31m). The five radio bands are on a drum dial which is changed by the chrome knob on the right side. Grandpa
Guest WEB 38
FM Radio was invented in 1939, Not sure when it was adopted to the automobile. Bill
