1967 Mustang GTA convertible, triple black, factory A/C

Recommended Posts

At the moment, the GTA remains an affordable alternative to the Mach 1s, Boss 302, and other big dollar ponies, and if there's one I'd put away as an investment, it might be this one. Fully restored with documentation and photos, it's a triple black GTA convertible with its original drivetrain and factory A/C. Now, if you're a Mustang aficionado, you know that there's no way to claim "numbers matching" with a Mustang, but it is quite likely the original A-code 289 under the hood (the date codes line up properly), backed by a C4 3-speed automatic and feeding a 9-inch with 3.00 gears inside, so it's an easy cruiser. Engine bay is nicely detailed with all correct equipment save for the battery, and while it shows some signs of use, it looks right and runs extremely well. BFG redline radials that look great on the Styled Steel wheels and ride and handle superbly.

Paint and bodywork are very nicely done, but I don't know that I'd call this one "over restored." The paint looks right on the car, and it's only a few years old. Black's a challenge to photograph, especially in the direct sunlight, and I will say that this one looks better in person than in photos. Correct GTA emblems and rocker stripes, hood-mounted turn signal indicators. Excellent fit and panel alignment and a significant investment in new trim and fresh chrome.

The black interior is all-new, including seat covers, foam, door panels, and carpets. Factory A/C has been fully restored and works properly, original gauges are in good shape, and a later AM/FM/cassette stereo in the original spot, but the dash hasn't been cut. New black power convertible top with correct rear window and matching black boot with storage bag. Trunk is finished with reproduction mat and tire cover. New weatherstripping throughout. Also includes rare factory tach and a clock that actually works!

Summer cruisers don't get much better than this. Asking $38,900, and we're always open to reasonable offers. Thanks!

PS: We also have a 100% original GTA fastback available, same powertrain, no A/C, but a definite HPOF contender.

Nope, the A-code 225-horse 4-barrel 289 was the standard GTA engine. A vast majority of them were small block cars, although the 390 gets all the glory. On the flip side, if this one were packing a 390, you'd probably have to add another $20K to the price tag, and as we always used to say at the Corvette shop, "I can get my small block car around the track faster than your big block." There's really nothing like a smart-running 289, in my opinion. And what a snarl!
