Have you removed the lock pins? There may be a cap on the top spindle opening. Drill a hole in the cap and pry it out so you have access to the pin. With the cap off and lock pins out,take a brass drift and drive them through from the top. They should come out easily. There may also be a cap on the bottom that you'll have to remove. The caps keep out dirt and water.
