alini
I am just about done cleaning the frame to the point I can actually take the suspension apart. I have cleared about a 5 gallon bucket worth the dirt, sand and greasy grime from the frame. I cant help but noticed that the upper ball joints look like that are tack welded into the control arm, its done on both sides. Is that right?? Or did a shade tree mechanic replace them in the past? Guest Rob J
Nope, they were tack welded from the factory, so most likely they are the factory installed ones. New replacement ones press in the upper control arm, and then have a large nut which secures them in. Or, you can have them re-tack welded in place, which is what I did. JZRIV
Admittedly a bit anal, I put a sloppy tack weld on my replacements to simulate original.
Guest lemmy-67
I had a disc brake conversion on my 67, and the old upper ball-joints were cut out. New ones have the big nut retainer on them.
