lawrence
I am adding a headlight relay to my all stock 1946 Cadillac to reduce the heat on the bimetal circut breaker on the headlight switch, The relay works fine with a 15 amp fuse, but gets quite warm where the batt. wire fastens and around the fuse area. My question is how hot should should the headlight relay get? thanks Dave T
Ben Bruce aka First Born
It shouldn't. Ben
Friartuck
The relay should not be getting hot. Even though the coil is rated for 6 volts make sure the contacts are rated for the 15+ amp load. Other thing to look for: are the connections good, firmly crimped and soldered? Are you using 12 gauge wire? Heat is a sign/result of unwanted resistance.
