Guest RonJar
Hi all, the Stromberg carb on my 38 is a AAVB 267 and I suspect a rich mixture due to incorrect float setting. I was coasting down a long hill at about 45mph and neighbour who just happened to be behind me said the exhaust was spewing black smoke. Not blue, he is sure it was black. The pipe is a little sooty.I notice that on the left (drivers) side of the float bowl, is what looks like it may be sight or fuel level checking screw. Is that what I'm looking at?If I remove it with the engine running, (like on a 4 barrel Holley) should the fuel level be at the bottom of the opening? What's the procedure for setting float height? Are the floats cork? Thanks in advance ....... carbking
With the engine running, the fuel level should just be at the bottom of the sight plug thread. Two additional probable causes of rich running on this specific model:(1) choke not fully opening (more common than it working properly)(2) ignitionThe floats used by Marvel were cork, but the float used by Stromberg was brass.Jon. Guest RonJar
Thanks lads, the floats were high, I dropped them a wee bit and fuel level should be OK now according to the sight plug.RonJ
