BUICK RACER
1938 Buick Century Convertible 320/140 HP, 3-Speed for sale by Mecum Auction
egor
Pretty car. Too bad the wheels are painted bright red instead of the correct Bugatti Red, a sort of dark brick color. Are they striped? Valve and spark plug cover seem to be painted too light a green, maybe just the photo, but they do look different than the cast pieces. And with 66c's, it's always good to see the ID plate. There are cars that show up on eBay, etc. being passed off as 66c's that are actually 46c (Special) bodies on a Century chassis, as the dimensions of the bodies from the firewall back are the same. Grandpa
I noticed that the car in the auction is lacking the chrome moldings on each side of the dashboard. The Special doesn't have these moldings. This could indicate a body swap of a 46C body onto a Century chassis. The attached pictures show a Special dashboard (factory photo) and a Century dashboard.Grandpa
The Continental
Whether it's a real Century or not, I'd love it. I'm especially digging the red interior. Shame they don't do that with contrasting exteriors anymore.
bobj49f2
The only thing I find annoying about that car is it's just too darn nice!!I couldn't never have a car that nice. I want a car I can drive, not just sit and look pretty.I would never kick that car out of my garage.
egor
I think it looks great, too, but if I dropped $150K on it and then discovered it was one of those Century/Special Jackalopes worth a small fraction, it wouldn't be a good day.
