straight8pontiac Posted May 16, 2012 Share Posted May 16, 2012 Fitz,My information is coming from "The Standard Catalog of Pontiac 2nd edition" by John Gunnell.1st # = Assembly plant = C = California2nd symbol = engine type = 8 = in line 8 cylinder3rd symbol = model year = Z= 19544th symbol = type of transmission= H = Hydra-MaticRemaining symbol = production number for each car line at each assembly plant.Hope this helps-Dave.
