R.White
I have just fitted a rebuilt North East 6 volt generator to my 1926 116 tourer but I need to be sure that I don't make any silly mistakes in wiring it up. First, I think I will need to ensure correct polarity so that I don't burn it out! . The car is positive earth. The generator has two wires; one is labelled field and the other, arm. Do I need to flash the armature wire to the negative battery terminal? Also which wires do I connect to the two generator wires? I am a bit confused. Please help.Ray. startergenrebuilder
Ray,Here is a copy of my email reply that I just sent to you."The field wire goes to ground (frame) first going through a fuse. The armature brush wire goes to the cutout relay. You can polarize the generator by touching the two wires going to the cutout (Armature wire & Ammeter wire) quickly to get a spark."Let me know if you have any other questions.
