Iain M.
Here's another (probably stupid) question - recently got an NOS intake manifold for my 47 LC from a forum member & it has 4 bolt holes for the carb as opposed to the 3 on the old one. My engine guy tells me he can build an adapter plate with no problem, but I'm wondering why the difference??Iain

Guest Jim Zephyr
Hello Iain four bolt carb base was used in 1942 thru 1948 Lincoln V-12 motors, best to get a four bolt base and change it out. I also have NOS spacer for four-bolt application -Jim
peecher
I have seen ( factory?) replacement 3 bolt intake manifolds that had the same design as the 4 bolt design used from '42. These manifolds had an "improved" heat riser design and seem to eliminate the burn-thru problems the original intakes experienced. They looked just the same as the '42 to '48 manifolds other than the fact they only had 3 mounting studs for the early carbs. The 3 bolt carbs were jetted a tad leaner, maybe one of the reasons why the '41's won the Gilmore Economy run along with the double overdrives?
