Dave Henderson
That thing on the couch appears to be a WW11 era aircraft oxygen bottle

Dave Henderson
If it's like mine, that oxygen bottle on the sofa is of stainless steel and built to last forever. Conveniently, it has an opening at each end. Before I got a large compressor, whenever I needed a larger than usual continuous supply of compressed air I put one of them in line and let it build up simultaneously with the compressor's tank. Doing that meant I might not have to stop and wait for the pressure to build back up before a job is completed. By adding a handle they make good portable air tanks too, for which I now use mine.
