steering wheel cover

hello, I'm installing a wood steering wheel on my 65 riv,and I want to have the chrome steering wheel cover assembly(the piece where the wheel positioning handle and blinker lever come out of) re-chromed,but can't get the cover to come off. does it pull off or is there something Im missing. the manual on page 10-57 & 10-58 it looks like it just slips off.anyone know what the problem could be. thanks.

Two screws on the bottom half. Take those out, remove the bottom half and you can figure out how the top comes off.

The chrome cover is a mild press fit. Try placing a large screwdriver under the inside lip and use the steering shaft to pry against...not too hard! You may need to work around the perimeter to gradually pry it up and off,

my wheel is cracked to buggery and i'm maybe gonna have to imstall another to get it passed for rego

would be good to see what other wheels look good on a first gen

thanks tom, tried what you suggested and it came right off! To whitewatersky the steering wheel i'm putting on I bought on e-bay it was expensive, little over 300.00 but looks great. fits great
