bepnewt
'64 Riv, transplanted 401 that's been rebuilt less than 1k miles ago.The liquid in my radiator is a little rusty so I'd like to get it out and some fresher stuff in there. Assuming there's nothing wrong with the radiator, is this as easy as draining it from the bottom and adding about 50/50 water/coolant in the top? Seems to me that some will still be in the block that way, though. For someone with no specialty tools, what's the best way for me to do this?Thanks,-BEPNewt
1965rivgs
There will be a considerably volume of coolant left in the block unless you also drain the block. You will find the block plugs on the left and right lower block just behind the motor mounts. No special tools; they should be hex head plugs unless someone has substituted non original hardware. bepnewt
Thank you both; that's enough information for me to get the job done, now.-BEPNewt
steelman
Brian, just a fairly cheap item to consider while you do this is a new radiator cap. These do fail over time. If you don't know for sure how old yours is, consider replacing it now, rather than after it has made a mess.
