Should I use a muffler?

Should I install a muffler on a 26 Buick Standard? Does it matter what kind?

I would think you should. There are a lot of options, but I am going to assume that you want to keep it original as possible. Do you have a muffler now? If not you need to get a long round muffler. There are several places that sell them, Waldron's is just one example. You just have to make sure that you get the pipe sized to the muffler and get it placed correctly under the car. Once you determine the correct size you want to can check what your local auto parts may have or can also look on Ebay too.

Putting on the exhaust system is not too tough of job. Good luck.

any muffler (even a glasspack) is better than none on a street/road car.

Yes, you do need a muffler. Some of the older muffler shops may still have something in their stock. I bought an NOS muffler for my 29 from a local shop.
