leaking temp probe

I just had my temp gauge repaired and put it in the car but it is leaking antifreeze around the fitting. Anyone know what you can put on the threads to seal it and keep it from leaking?

Thanks, Brian

I usually use the white teflon tape. There seems to be a lot of play in the threads of those fittings, so you have to really wrap it to the point where it may be a bit hard to start. If so take off a couple of wraps and try again. Also, it is important to have a clean hole and fitting. I use a Dremel tool with the right size diameter brass wheel to clean up the threads. Hope this helps. John

Cleaned it up, put on the teflon tape and it is still leaking. I'm being careful not to tighten it too much in fear of damaging the probe. It even seemed to leak a little from the copper line coming through the nut.

Honest teflon tape is junk!

You can get a can of teflon paste at Home Depot..... much better stuff and you can wipe off the extra

Unless your building race cars the little can will last your lifetime!
