1911 Indy racers

Hello,

I'm a researcher working on a book on the first Indianapolis 500.

I would like to talk with anyone who has or has driven a circa-1911 Indy-style car. If you have or have driven a Marmon, Lozier, National, Fiat, Simplex, Mercer, Strutz or any of the other lost brands from the 19-teens, particularly 1911, I'd like to talk with you. I'm interested in the experience, in what it feels like to be behind the wheel of an early Indy car – the steering, braking, suspension, the noise, the exposure, etc. I'm looking for someone who can describe that experience.

If you are interested, please contact me via PM or through my email address mrs2200 at columbia.edu.

The book author, who may ultimately conduct the interview, is a former executive editor of Sports Illustrated.

Thank you for your time.

I hope to hear from you,

Mike

If you attend the Harry A. Miller vintage racecar meet at Milwuakee, WI in July you can easily get a ride in a 1913 Mercer and judge for yourself what it was like on the 1 mile track. Stude8
