CRT Controller

The buttons light up, but I can't tell if they work because the screen is black. I know that the radio went off when the CRT went black, but the heater still works as it was preset. I also could see smoke and smell a burning(electrical) odor when the CRT went up.

Can you turn the radio on/off by pushing where the button would be ?

There are several modules and quite a bit of wiring involved in the CRT display. The screen is developed in the BCM & data sent to the CRTC which drives the CRT. Power is supplied by the Central Power Supply (CPS). Some data runs on the ALDL which should still be working if you have access to a scan tool.

CPS is behind driver's side kick panel (Fig 8 pg 8C-5, 89 FSM). CRTC is located approximately under the cassette (Fig 9 page 8C-6. BCM id behind the glove box.

You will also see reference to the Graphics Control Center (GCC) this is the combination of the CRT and the touchscream.

Electrical diagram can be found in section 8A-83 though looking at 8A-82 will help also.
