1926 Buick engine decoding.

I was looking at a 1926 chassie with engine number 1582754,it`s adverticed as the only 1926-49 ever built. In (Seventy years of Buick) there seems to be 115 mod 49X built for export and 1 mod 49 for domestic.

Someone know if this`s the engine number is for a 49X mod.

Second question, what is a Enclosed Touring in 1926.

Thanks Leif in Sweden.

In my Master parts List there are none mod 49 listed, but in George H Dammann:s Seventy Years of Buick tells that there are 115 mod 49X built for export, and 1 mod 49 for special order, for domestic sale.

All these are Enclosed Touring cars.

In 1925 there seems to be a lot of Enclosed Touring cars and even Enclosed Roadster mod .

Dear Leif:

The engine number you give is an engine for a 1926 Model 49 or 50 series. The frame number issued to the only USA 1926 Model 49 was 1,463,024. I have the frame numbers for the 1926 49x's also, so if you can post the frame number, I can tell you for sure what it is.

Thanks Dave.

When I looked at the chassie I couldn`t find the

chassie number,I asked the owner to send the number to me but it seems that he don`t want to give it to me.(I`m Sorry)(Adverticed as ready for paint and uppholstery ?.)

Do you know if it`s right that Buick made 115 of 49X mod.for export. If I ever got the number I`ll be back.

Thanks once again Leif in Sweden.

Dear Leif:

I show that Buick issued 115 frame numbers but only built 113 cars as 1926 Model 49X's. There was 1 additional car for USA use. Having a few frame numbers not used wasn't unusual at that time.
