Does any one know if you can rebuild the water pump with teflon seals and stainless steel shaft in order to improve reliability. If this is possible is there any Dodge Brothers Club contacts to have this work performed. I am a Dodge Brothers Club member

Thanks

Look in your DBC newsletter, I think all three major parts suppliers sell stainless shafts. The housing would have to be bored for the seals to fit, which could be done. I'm assuming you are talking about a regular lip seal, not teflon cord. I've heard that teflon cord gets hot and wears the shafts. I think I would go with a regular rubber seal instead of teflon.

I'm going to borrow this thread for my 29 DB p-u. I just pulled my water pump and found it is seized. The impeller is pretty rusted up. I think I can rebuild it. The jam nut on the packing is down pretty tight so I'll take that loose and see if I can free every thing up. Is that shaft bushed? I don't think there is a bearing, I'm guessing bronze bushing. Has anyone rebuilt one of these DB pumps that can offer some suggestions?

Merchant Xpress: We just rebuilt our water pump prior to going to Hershey this year. We have fast four motor with water pump in rear. We purchased new shaft, impeller, and packing from Tom and Cindy Myers. Yes it has a bronze bushing and it was still in good shape. Had a machinist size new shaft to existing bushing. Works good. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks Ed, I need all kinds of help. The first thing I'm trying to figure out is how to get the pulley off the shaft. It appears to to be pinned but it may have a bolt. I'm guessing though that it's pinned and after 80 years the pin is pretty well fused to the shaft. On one side of the pulley is an open hole that seems to have a pin coming from the other side. Can't tell for sure as the other side is flush with the shaft. I may have to drill it out. From what I can tell there is a bearing where the impeller rides in the housing and the shaft rides in a bronze bushing. Do you have a contact address/e-mail for the Myers? Or phone number. My pump is pretty well seized up.
