keiser31 Posted August 17, 2008 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Yes, it is a spare tire lock. It fits over one of the lug nuts that hold the spare wheel to the bracket. If you had a car with the stud/nut type mount, it would usually work. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dave Henderson Posted August 17, 2008 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Your lock can be used as a spare tire lock, but they were sometimes sold (at least during WWII) in sets of 4, to protect all your tires from theft. Tires were rationed then, and if yours were stolen you were in bad shape. Speed limits were so low (35mph I think) that the imbalance caused was of negligible consequence. There is another part not shown that was placed under the lug nut. It has a rectangular receiver hole for the lock to engage when the key is turned. See picture.
