Can anyone 'positively' identify this automobile? The license plate
indicates Illinois, 1914... It looks as though the steering is on the right, and those sure look like kerosene lanterns!
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/3118/car_ride.jpg
Phil Gunsul - WB9AAX http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/3118/
prg.GARBAGE@cris.com
[Remove GARBAGE for E-mail]

[For some strange reason, GeoCites server would not allow viewing of the original picture. I have since copied it to another location.. Sorry..]
Can anyone 'positively' identify this automobile? My first though on seeing this photo was that it was an E-M-F. After looking through the photo archive at the E-M-F Homepage, I came across a photo of a 1911 E-M-F Open Touring. Actually it is an artist rendition from some early literature.
I believe it to be a 1911 E-M-F Open Touring.
Here is the link to the E-M-F Homepage. The picture is in the photo archive for 1911.
E-M-F Homepage

John, the match for my picture and the 1911 E-M-F is almost uncanny! The only difference I see is the very front of the front fenders. My picture seems to have a piece that 'drops down', almost giving the fender an eye-lid. But other than that, it looks right on! Please forgive my ignorance, but what does the E-M-F stand for? You are certainly welcome to keep a copy of the picture for you site if you would like. The occupants are my g-grandmother, behind the wheel, my grandmother in the 'passenger' seat and some pretty distant cousins in the back seat... No pun intended.
Phil Gunsul - WB9AAX http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/3118/
prg.GARBAGE@cris.com
[Remove GARBAGE for E-mail]
Thanks again John

After I posted my last message, I took a little more time to look at the pictures on the E-M-F Homepage and also noticed the difference in the front of front fenders. I also see a difference in the dash. The headlights are of the E&J style used on the 1912 E-M-F's. There is a nice picture of a 1911 Open touring on the 1911 page of the E-M-F Homepage Photo Archive.
I also did a backword and forward comparision to see if the front fenders/firwall may have been a hold out from the previous year or somenthing new for the following year. It does not appear so.
Another thought comes to mind, but one I can not investigate at this time. The Everitt 30 automobile was VERY similiar to the E-M-F. Could this be an Everitt? I have some pictures at home I will look at and repost.
This may be a 1911 E-M-F 30 Open touring with some "bills" added to the front fenders.
If you look at the far front fender (would be passenger side - remember, right hand drive, so left side fender) something just does not look right abouth the front of that fender. May be it is just me.
Anyone else have any other ideas of what this car could be. I am not 100% sure it is an E-M-F.
E-M-F Homepage

Phil,
That is not a 1910 Overland. I have a 1910 Overland Model 42. If it is an Overland it is before 1909. The front fenders have a lip on them and I don't think Overlands had them until later. THere are no front doors - - Overland started using front doors in 1911. I have no idea what it is. My first thought was Cadillac.
Dan
Dan
