Kenyon_McMahon
i just acquired a 1927 Dodge Brothers vehicle. im not too familiar with this era of car, i mainly build drag race cars. but the car runs and drives nice and is a survivor. i want to restore it but before i do i want to learn the history of these cars and check on availability for parts... any info or leads to some other sites would be greatly appreciated
nearchoclatetown
Welcome to the DB world. Read down through the list of threads in this section. There have been several NEW DBs discovered and bought by first time DB owners within the last year. Many of the questions you may have are already answered, but ask away. There are several GOOD vendors for parts. If your car runs and drives you have a good start. The '27 is kind of the '67 Corvette of the DB four cylinder cars, last year and possibly the best. Kenyon_McMahon
Question: what type of engine oil was used. I heard it was straight weight.
nearchoclatetown
Everyone has a differant opinion. BUT, on an old engine without a filter I use Non-detergent 30 wt.
Kenyon_McMahon
Someone suggested I use Rotella 5-30 as this oil still contains zinc which would help lubricate the engine parts. Any feedback?
Kenyon_McMahon
How hard are teh stewart carbs to rebuild?
dwollam
I use Delo 400 30W detergent. It still has the goodies in it, the multi weight delo does not. 5-30 is too thin for my thinking.
nearchoclatetown
I agree with Dave, 10-30 is too thin. I've read enough about zinc to be really confused, not sure what I think any more. If you were a drag racer you can rebuild a Stewart, don't try to out think it. Just make sure you mark the enrichner { choke} before you take off the linkage off the spline.
