pint4
My fuel gauge doesn't work. Always reads empty. Doesn't appear to be the sending unit. Sending unit tested ok. How do I test the fuel gauge? It is in a 1933 Buick Series 60.Thanks.BobP.S. Does someone repair fuel gauges if broke?
mrpushbutton
Remove the wire that goes to the sending unit on the tank and touch it to ground, the gauge on the IP should read "full" (deflect upscale). Next, take an ohmeter and place one lead on the sending unit connection and the other to ground, you should see some kind of resistance, under 200 ohms. In all likleyhood your sending unit has gone bad.

pint4
mrpushbutton,I tried the first step but the fuel gauge needle didn't move at all. What's the next step you would recommend? Thanks.Bob
RocketDude
if you got a good ground on the wire you removed from the sending unit, and it didn't move the gauge, with key on of course, then I would be thinking the wire between the gauge and sender, or the gauge it's self. You can string a temp wire up and eliminate the wire. If the wire is good and you have continuity between the sender and gauge, I'm thinking it's time to send the gauge to the folks mentioned above...
