  1. I did notice that the linkage that stops against the idle screw ,where the gas pedal linkage attaches to, does not have a solid attachment to the throttle plate shaft, not brazed on or bonded in any way to the shaft. This seems to be causing alot of slop in that area which along with dirty throttle plates I'm thinking is part of the problem. Are they supposed to be this way so that the shaft can be changed? I have lots of side to side movement there too.
  2. im having trouble with my car returning to the set idle.it snaps back to normal when i give the pedal a quick jab.other than that the car runs perfect .is this a common problem with these carbs? im going to do a rebuild on the carbs and hope that corrects the problem. gracias, arnulfo 1965 rivi gs original dual quad carter afb
  3. bob , i cleaned the points on mine with some fine grit emery cloth.put the cloth between the points and move it back and forth just a couple of times .you dont want to take too much metal off.turn the cloth over and do the same on the other point surface. make sure whatever it is you are using to test has good solid electrical connections.i almost gave up on mine because it was inconsistent also but found out it was a bad connection.i used a battery charger on trickle charge to test mine.left it on for 24hrs.,i even sat there for about 1 hr. watching it reset to see if i could spot any problems.i also used wd40 for lubrication.its been working perfect since i put it back in on4/14/08.these clocks are a work of art, american made, and in my opinion every effort should be made to keep them original.by the way,by working "perfect " i mean working consistently within 6min. accuracy.

  5. im trying to find someone who rebuilds distributors for buicks (425 with dual quads and a/c),preferably in so.calif but will ship if rebuilder is reputable.i want to stay with points no upgrade to msd or hei. if no one knows of anyone who does this maybe a parts supplier that would have the counterweights?i think that is where the problem is with mine.excessive amount of play at the pivot point.thanks arnulfo
  6. on the rear end of my 65 riv gs the differencial housing has "343D" stamped on it and a "70" .the carrier flange has "RRR" stamped on it. i looked on the roa site to see if there was a reference to these stamps but there was none. the oil fill plug has the tag indicating a posi track diff.the "RRR" is stamped where the circled x is supposed to be (according to factory manual).can anyone tell me what i have here as far as ratios and whether or not this is the original rear end? thanks arnulfo
  7. I just did the front brakes on my Rivi Grand Sport. Had to replace the front drums, my originals were too far gone. I hate to throw them away, can anyone tell me if they are salvageable, and if so, who or how are they restored? (Aluminum finned drums). Thanks, Arnulfo
  8. can anyone tell me what size bolts go on the corners of the front bumper.what do you do when theres no mounting nut on one side .im thinking i need to cut the nut mount, bend it out, weld a nut on,bend the nut mount back in place, and weld the cut. anyone know of an easier way to do this? gracias, arnulfo ROA#11682
  9. ed you were rihgt on!after further invetigation, i found that i had a weak electrical connection.i corrected the problem and the clock has been working perfectly for the past 18 hrs.im truly amazed at all the workmanship and machining that went into cars back then and all saying made in u.s.a! thanks for your help ed. arnulfo
  10. just finished going thru the clock on my 65 rivi.got it working but it stops for about 15 min. and restarts again.i cleaned every thing up and freed the gears up with small amounts of wd40. the only thing i didnt do was clean the points.they looked a liitle too worn down so i didnt want to take any more metal off the contact surfaces.they didnt appear oxidized . anyone got any experience working on these?
  11. problem solved! its been so long since i wrenched on one of these fine american classics that i had forgotten that not everything is going to fit perfectly and slip right into place.i had to do a little coaxing and massaging but i got it in without stripping any of the original mounting bolts or reaming any of the holes .it sure makes a difference as far as steadying that compressor. arnulfo
  12. I bought rear a/c brkt for my 65 rivi gs. its used and im pretty sure it the right brkt for my car. all the mounting holes on the back of the compressor lined up including the one on the head. the hole for the intake manifold is about 3/4"off.not quite long enough. anyone got any ideas? the arm that mounts to the intake manifold is off center as it shoud be to accomadate the dual quads and the brkt clears the valve covers.
  13. dave,if i were'nt a member of r.o.a. already, i would DEFINETLY join based on your sales pitch.i tried looking for the info. in the r.o.a. website but was unsucessful.thanksfor the teaser steve.my car does have all that except for the door edge gaurds.the former owner must have took them off.i'm going to try the r.o.a. website to see if i can get some satisfaction on this tease you gave me LOL!
  14. i got this info off the data plate of my 65' rivi gs. EXT-2KR-3T-4F-5KW Can anyone tell me what they indicate or guilde me to a site that could? Its the last line of large letters before the small lettered "body by fisher"gracias
  15. dick, thanks for the info.Is that a pic. of your riv. with the tach. on the console?all those buttons and knobs sure look tough! It looks like the cockpit of a jet.Ireally like the look.I wish they had continued it into 65'.I got to ask, what do they all do?Im thinking that the answer to that ques.is lengthy,i'll understand if you dont want to get into it.The tach. installation looks clean.JIMTASH mentions that some tachs purchased on ebay that dont work, cannot be repaired.I bought one on ebay about a year ago that does'nt work, Ipaid about $250 for it hoping it was repairable. The seller was honest and said that it didnt work.Is there anything i can look for that would tell me that its not repairable? Everything seems to be intact internally and externally. No broken or loose pieces inside the tach.I called one of auto instrument repair co. listed in Hemmings and they said they could repair it for @$250, but it's not a guarantee that they can fix it.
  16. i got tach locations for 63's and 64's,can anyone tell me the location for a 65'if there is one?
  17. thanks for the info fellas. like Gee Rydes, i too am still learning about rivs.i took a closer look at the pics and noticed allthe flaws you guys pointed out.i also noticed that the gas pedal and rear a/c bracket were missing.i was curious about this because i have a real buick tach but could not find anything in the buick manuals i have that show it being offered as a option so i dont know where it would mount.Gee Rydes mentioned the data plate not showing the a/c option stamp.is the data plate supposed to show every option the car came with?does adding options that are not stamped on the plate devalue the car? arnulfo 1965 riviera gran sport

  19. theres a 65 rivi g.s. listed on ebay. the ad lists a tach as a factory option and shows a picture of it mounted above the a/c controls.the chrome trim that goes aroud the a/c/ controls look like they were factory made to accomodate the tach.the tach does not say buick on it like the ones they put on the 65 wildcat but the chrome bezel around the tach does look like the buick wildcat tachs. does anyone know if this was a factory option for rivis? i looked at my buick manuals and they only mention the tack option for the wildcat and show the wiring diagram for it but not for the rivi.
