  1. It was raining today so all the phtos are in the garage - parked hastily. Boxes of parts came with the car - not sure what fits and what doesn't at this point. Need some fellow member advice.

Look at the photo of the top - see how it sags in the middle. Was there some sort of clamp or catch for the mechanism?

Could someone verify that these are the correct gauges - I have five different speedometer gauges. I will sell off the ones I do not need.

Are there supposed to be end caps on the windshield support ends (see the silver nuts)?

Also have a large coffee can full of hub caps - several different thread size (diameter) - driver qaulity for the most part; one or two are really good - some engraved; some stamped

    Any and all advice appreciated.

  2. Tried several times to join on my lunch break. It looks like my work computer is either blocking the PayPal site (don't know why; I use it all the time) or the link may have issues.

I have book-marked those two sites.

I'll post some photos Saturday or Sunday of this week.

  3. I have verbally struck a deal for the car above. I will be joining this club as well as the DB club as soon as I have the engine and body #'s from the car. Being a modest project car (mostly complete) and my first 'real' antique car. I am looking for leads and vendors to help find the remaining parts I know right now I need:

    Speedometer cable

    Radiator badge (DB logo)

    Windshield gaskets/weatherstrips

    Wind wings mounts (period correct?)

    Cloth coverings for the wiring

Any manuals that you think would be helpful

    Thanks in advance!

  5. I was put in contact with her from the local club President - and I really appreciate the help since I am not a club member (for some reason). I was initally told it was a 28 touring. But when the owner called me back she stated that it was a 'spec' car - not sure what that means to be honest. The club President also wrote a folow-up email stating that some of the other members may be familiar with the car and stated that it was a 'prototype', Both the owner and President mentioned that it was 1 of 8 made and it is the only known survivor.

The owner is more than willing to let me come over and see it, but I think it is beyond my means and I really don't want to lead her on or pretend I am serious...but if someone with more knowledge than me would like more verification of this car, I will be glad to do the leg work.

  6. Yes, I know but I wanted to double check with her if it was ok to put her name and number out their on the web. She wants to sell but seems gaurded. So I am just waiting to hear back from her before putting all the details out there. Pictures may be an issue as I do not think it has moved in 10 years.

  7. Posted in the Pontiac forum but no replies, though I would spread the word...

Long story short. I have been looking for an early car for a loooong time and it turns out I have located one of 8 of these prototype tourers. Unfortunitely it is way to pricey for me. They want to sell but are not realy 'spreading the word' so I vounteered to do it for them - I have no connection and profit in no way fom doing this - just trying to get a rare car in the hands of someone who could appreciate it.

  9. Just the messenger. If I could save them I would. These two Packards will become rods very shortly. Both have completely restored running gear that will be stripped out. The red body goes on the frame shown. The second car is just temporarily holding the front hood of the red car.

Forget about the first image...I got the wrong file...

  10. Connie,

Please post the plaque numbers and/or data plate numbers on your car so others might be able to help you. It would also be helpful to know the color combinations (interior/ exterior and top color) to validate that the car is original to thenumbers supplied. The data plate is usually on the passender side firewall.

From this info you should be able to get many responses on the car.

  11. Just remember that his actions are a reflection of him, not of you.

Think about what is going to happen in the future when this couple tells this story - she will want to tell it because you tried to help; the husband will look like an ass everytime the story is told --and I bet she will re-tell the story every time she wants to make 'a point' to him when they are in a group setting.

This guy will regret his actions for a long time. You, you'll probably replace this story with some of the many times you helped and it was a pleasent experence.

  12. I am currently talking to a friends father about buying one of his cars because he can no longer drive it. He does not necessarily want to sell - his wife does and his kids want him to sell. He acknowledges that he can no longer work or care for the car and is somewhat happy to see it go to someone that will take care of it like he did. Its not about money for him.

    We will see what happens.

  14. Interesting thread on value verses worth and the link to attract new blood into the hobby.

I'm 42, bought my Caddy (72 Eldo) 17 years ago as a project (it was!) and I am currently working on obtaining a 27 Willy's or a 16 Buick. The Caddy probably will never be worth much but the top goes down and I love big cars. I like the engineering and sense of accomplishment I get from working on cars.

I work in software but can tell you that we have probably about 5-6 car nuts at work tht all have dabbled in car rodding and/or restoration in varying degrees. Most have abandoned their projects and have sworn off the 'hobby' for several common reasons.

Problem #1 - lack of common interest - no one in the immediately family has the same interest - my two boys could care less about cars but I hate TV so I need to do something after their bedtime.

Problem #2 - not enough time - after working all week, going to kids sporting events/practice/dance 3 nights of those weekdays and then games on Saturday, Church on Sunday, you barely have time to 'dedicate' to doing any real car work. Sport schedules overlap so there is never a break - mainly times I do not get home until 9PM. Yes, the sports are my kids ideas - I do not force them (like other Moms/Dads I know).

Proble, #3 - Money - Some use this excuse but what they are really saying is I could upgrade my current car for that much and have more luxury and look better to the neightbors.

Problem #4 - Driveability - Again a lame execuse that is really covering upan underlying issue that problem #1 is in play - we all need to save face.

I was going to go on but everyone know this. I think what needs to be done is embrace new methods of clubs/forums. Use the forums to gather interst in a quick lunch meet. Exchange tips/help via the web. This very site has helped immensly in my study of the 1916 Buick - I would have passed on that car without question if no one helped. There are no Cadillac, Z3, or Buick clubs in my area but I feel a part of them as I help others and they help me via the computer. In fact I think if you did a 'hit' count on this web page you membership is probably larger than it has ever been. Do some online polls of people in locations and I bet you will find groups in your own back yard - it worked for the Z3 crowd and now they use the forum to organize drives, photoshoots and meet/greets.

We are out there, we just have to do our meets behind a screen and in our pajamas.

When I buy either car I will join the appropriate forum and club. I think any with real interest will. I have several ideas on how to increase paid memberships but I will leave that for now.

As for value I agree that some cars will always be of high value - but those are limited to the very wealthy or speculators - they are no different than stocks at that level. If you compare car prices to fine arrt prices blue chip cars are still very cheap.

Everyday cars and the more unpopular cars will vary as the economy varies but I do not think many will get rid of their projects if they are really interested - they are not paying loans on their projects (most) so selling at a loss does not make sense. If it isn't costing you money, why sell?
