  1. Rick is right, and corrected me recently, that all 29's in Australia had chrome head, parking and tail lights.

In North American production,  in the 116" models, the models 25 and 26S had chrome and rest (20, 26 & 27) had black, painted head, parking and tail lights.

In the 121" series, the models 44, 46S had chrome and the rest (41, 46, 47 & 48) had black.

    In the 129" series, all models (49, 50, 50L, 51, 54CC, 55, 57 & 58) had chrome.

The 54CC body was made by Fisher while the rest of the open bodies (25, 44, 49, & 55) were made by Stewart.

The 54CC came in 3 main body colours:  Distingue Blue (Upper body Colour:  Cairo Green, Wood Wheel felloe: cream; spoke: black), Nomad Tan (UB:  Storm brown, WW: Buick Ver. and Black) and Dynamic Red (UB: Black, WW: gold and black).

Here are some photos of restored 54CCs (all with wire wheels) and 1 out of the Dealer Catalogue.

  2. Good to have some time to get Marlene in-tune with another drive in the 29 Roadster to Spokane.  Mid July is perfect for +90 F temps. (getting to +107 C inside the car).

And, we can get there through the northern USA states which we haven't visited.

Bit further (2,200 miles) than Denver (1,500 miles - 4 days on the road) but in the 29 that's only an extra day and a half on the road.

  3. I solved my problem on my 37 Cord, at least temporarily, by using a piece of magnetic sign material in the same colour as the car.  When it starts to rain I cover the vent with the sign material and no water comes in.  But, the drawback is that no fresh air comes in so it gets hot.

  4. Wow ... it would be nice to get out to the garage behind the house and do some wrenching.  Still too cold up here in Canada.

And, I have a rebuilt transmission in the USA just waiting for you guys to open your border so I can get it and have it put back in the car.

Anyone know how to get an old car transmission declared "essential" ?

  5. Keiser31 is correct.  It's a 1929 Buick model 54CC - a 4 passenger convertible coupe.  One of 19 different models offered that year.

This car has the optional Artillery Wood wheels and also an after-market light of some kind near the top front of the driver's door.

  6. I have a couple of China pieces.  The first is a poster advertising the 1929 Buick and the second is a brass plaque that, I believe, was attached to the wall outside the office door at General Motors China.

I tried adding a plug to my 6V car thinking it would charge a 5V phone car charger. Nope.

The cord needs about a minimum of 10V to produce 5V.

I have a female  trickle charger plug-in in my 29 McLaughlin Buick, equipped with 2 Optima batteries in parallel, and it will charge / run a phone's GPS.

Maybe because it's a McLaughlin Buick (When better Buicks are made McLaughlin will be making them) ???

  8. Do the front mount bolts line-up with the frame bolt holes ?  On my 29, I had to stretch the rear springs to get the bolt holes to line-up.

I chained the rear axle to a post and chained the front to a Jeep and slowly pulled the springs about 4” and the bolts dropped in.

  9. I have found there are a few LED head light bulbs around and it's important to get ones that focus properly. Classic and vintage Bulbs down in Australia manufacture a headlight LED, 6v high and low beam that works very well. As I
understand the arrangement of the LEDs should be close as possible to the positioning of an original type bulb filament, like a 1000, to work well and give a good Dipped and High beam in a original reflector.

  10. Has anyone had contact with American Arrow recently.  I know that Don Sommers passed away a short while ago.  I have been unsuccessful in contacting them on behalf of a friend in Australia who is looking for his pre-paid 1929 Buick radiator mascot.  Any information would be appreciated.

  11. OleBug, your 29 looks more like a roadster (vs. a 29-46S which was a Sport Coupe).  However, the door hinges look wrong for a Stewart bodied roadster.  Could it be a coupe made into a roadster ?
