  1. Thanks to all for your suggestions and advice.

I have not attempted to remove the stickers yet, but I have acquired some razor blades and adhesive. I was able to buy 3 old license plates with the stickers that I need, hoping that I could safely remove and reuse 2 of them. The plates were only $2 a piece, so if I destroy the stickers attempting to remove them I am not out much. I will scan one first to see if I can reproduce it, in the event that I ruin all 3 in the process of removal.

I sincerely appreciate the feedback, thanks for taking the time to type a reply.

  2. I'm looking for some help on the best method to remove a 1964 state registration sticker from an old license plate I picked up at a swap meet. I've had a replica 1964 "vanity" plate made for my car, and I'd like to make it look more authentic by adding a state registration sticker. Not to worry, I'm not trying to skirt the law in any way - just having some fun. The vendor I purchased the plate from said I could try heating it up with a blowdryer to try and loosen the adhesive, but he had never actually tried it. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

As more of a "purist," my preference is for a stock classic Riviera vs. a custom car. I do however appreciate the vision, skill, and artistry that goes into creating a custom car and have seen several really cool Riviera customs. Although I may not necessarily be attracted to a custom, I believe that each owner has the right to modify their vehicle to whatever suits their particular taste in cars. As an ROA member, I enjoy seeing custom and modified cars at ROA and BCA events and applaud the creativity that goes into building them.

This "donk" stuff however really escapes me. I don't get it. When I see a Riviera treated this way it kind of turns my stomach. There is a line that gets crossed somewhere along the way, but I don't really know how to define it. This might be opening a can of worms... but I am interested in your comments...

  5. Thanks Don and Kris! Great suggestions. Don your parade boot explanation was also very well done. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Looks like the "Grand Marshall" will be riding in a classy Riviera at the Mt. Horeb Summer Frolic parade!

  6. It might be a "Grand Sport" but it is not a Gran Sport in my opinion. If it doesn't have a 425 with dual quads it is not a GS. With the original motor gone, there's no way to know for sure if it ever was. Gran Sport's had a 3.42 ratio rear end and not 3.58 as the seller claims. If you truly want to buy a '65 Gran Sport, this is not it...

  7. ROA members can obtain reprints of articles from the Riview with a list of the factory options available for many (if not all) of the model years. You can get these through the ROA office (as I did) by mailing in a request and a stamped self-addressed envelope. There is an index of articles located in the "members only" section of the ROA web site which will help you identify which volume and pages to request.
