  1. Again, I appologize if this is a repeat post for you guys, but just trying to find the correct "thread" for my Buick restoration, I think this is the right one- BCA'rs help me out! Well, it's been almost 5 years since aquiring my 1923 Buick 4-39, and it is NOW time to get'r running. Step 1 is done- the engine does turn freely, and the electrical is all working. My goal is to have her running in time for our local Christmas parade. Might be a bit aggressive, but it's a goal. I am looikng for advice/help on what to do next. The car has not been started for well over 15 years, but is in remarkable condition. All original. Looking for a Buick expert in the Southern California area, San Diego if possible, to help with the engine issues. Since it is only original once, I don't want to "mess" it up. Are there any Buick 4 cylinder experts out there? I am a BCA member and would be greatful for the help getting this rarity back on the road. Thanks, Dave<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
  2. I posted this under the General Info tab, then saw this discussion forum as well. 3. Thanks for the reply, I will look him up, that is real close to me in Encinita. Is he a BCA member? Dave

  5. My 1st goal is to get the ol' 23 in shape for our big Christmas Parade in Encinitas. Colorado Springs with the BCA sounds like a goos goal as well. I have been documenting each process that is being done- will make a great mini series some day! With the engine turning freely, have dropped the pan and am getting rid of the settled gunk. Actually pretty clean in there! I will need to make a new gasket, pop it back on, drop in some oil, then work on waking the old girl up. I will post pictures soon. Dave
  6. No, I will be restoring the 23 as a survivor. Just going to get it running and will have to replace some of the wood in the top frame, and of course the canvass. But other than that, I hope to just get the mechanicals going and leave it at that. Paint patina looks great, interior is good, as is the undercarriage wood. They are only original once. Pretty fortunate that it is relatively "all" there and in tack. Dave
  7. Ah, didn't think about the clearance, thank you for the input. I will keep the Forum posted on my progress. Dave
  8. Very cool. Good luck. I purchased mine from the original family owners. Fantastic shape, all original, wood and leather as well, the top is shot. I will look for those plugs and keep the forum posted on the progress.
  9. It has been quite awhile, but I have finally started the restore on this rare beauty. The original engine and trani are in fantastic shape. I have the engine moving freely, and will begin to bring her back to life, as soon as I get the proper info from my fellow BCA friends. Which spark plugs to use and where to get them? Preference to oil used? Any words of wisdom? I will be documenting each step along the way, and hope to have it in the Buick Bugle when completed. Thanks, Dave
  10. Dang, it is always so hard to see these cars in this condition, and even harder to pass them up when you find one. The rarity keeps it interesting, but the cost and time to restore it is a pitfall. I may just "pillage" for usable parts...
  11. After going back to look at it again- it is a basket case, not much to salavage at all. I will post pictues soon.
  12. I have come across a 24-6-51. No engine or drive train, no interior, but the frame is good, the wood wheels are good, has a lot of surface rust and the top is gone, but plenty of salvagable metal all around. Any info out there? Is it worth a "total" restoration? Let me know how to post pictures, or I can forward a couple of pix. Thanks, Dave
  13. Very nice running, nice looking car. Red with white top and white interior. Thought I would offer it up to my fellow club members before I put it up on ebay. Have to cut one from the heard... Anyone intersted? $7000 or so... Dave aspidude@yahoo.com
  14. Hmmm, my interest is peaked! I will head back out this week, take some pix, jot down some numbers, (I would assume they are in the same place as the cars?) and probabaly tow it back to my house... This will make my wife quite pleased.... I will keep the BCAA post- posted... 2 23's might be pretty cool at that!
  15. While "foraging" for parts for my 1923 Buick 39, I happened across a 1923 Buick truck. I can not find much info on Buick "trucks" out there, so I have turned to the experts of the BCAA. From what I can find on my limited research, is this is the only or maybe the last year, in which Buick made a truck? I would assume that the parts would be interchangable? Or, if trucks are rare, would it be advised to restore this one, rather than pilage for parts? Any comments or advice? Thanks, Dave
  16. Great advice on the title, I didn't even notice the number on the title matched the number on my engine! I have a lot of "Buick School'n" in front of me, don't I? I hope to get some real time in over the long weekend to get the engine unstuck- yes, verrrry carefully of course. Numbers matching 'eh? Cool beans! More info to follow!
  17. Only rear brakes.... Thanks for the info,
  18. Found'm! Frame number is- 1040732 Engine number is- 1072241 So, are these correct for a 23-39?
  19. JB, A parts list? That would be great! Also locations of frame#'s and engine #'s would be a great help. I'm, looking at all sorts of numbers, guess just not the right ones... ;} Dave, aspidude@yahoo.com
  20. I found the chassis # in the title- 1072241- have not found this plate on the frame yet. Have jotted down many numbers from all around the car- I think the engine number is- 1573004- would this make sense? There was also a number on the bottom of the engine- 151646- rockers- 151519, waterpump- 151638- trani- 156596-1 and 157956-1. Hooked up a battery and the electrical seems fine- horn, lights guages work- The engine is still completly stuck. Any comments are advice is welcome... Thanks to all, I will keep you posted... Dave
  21. Of course, send me an email @ aspidude@yahoo.com and I will give you directions. Dave
  22. Wow- what a great site- so "much" info!!! I will get the numbers tonite, and purchase some Mystery Oil as well... I will be careful with the hand crank too... don't want hurt anything... Stay tuned.. Any recommendations for Buick help in San Diego? Also, how can I post pictures on this site? Dave A.
  23. Howdy from sunny San Diego. I am "very" new to these "old" cars. I usually restore muscle cars- I have a 1970 Buick GS455 as well. I will be more than happy to get all of the info mentioned above- just let me know where to look :}....The car is in fantastic shape for an 83 year old car. Had been sitting for the past 10 years, so I have drained and refilled all fluids- need to find a 6 volt battery as well. Any tips as to how to work the hand crank? It will not budge, seems to be "locked" in some way. I pulled the valve cover off, and pulled the plugs as well- all looks good on there. Is there anything that needs to set or unset, prior to using the crank? I want to get the engine well lubed before I try to use the regular starter. Thanks Dave Corbin and Dave Ebert Sr., from Dave Aspi... The 3 Dave's!
