Seems like whenever I travel anymore through AL, MS, LA, and TX, I see strings cars being towed by a single car or mini-pickup.  Or there's multiple trailers being towed by a single SUV, Van, or Minivan.  And it's not uncommon to see multiple tows on I-95.  Here's two 16-ft trailers being towed by a Chevy van in NC.  It was early morning, just starting to break daylight...and raining.  Neither trailer had license plates and because the front trailer was 8.5-ft wide, I couldn't tell what state license plate the towing van had.  Likewise with the strings of cars, only the towing car has plates.  I give them a wide berth and try to pass them as quickly as possible.  I thought this crap was supposed to be illegal.

    It is....

Years ago a friend,  who had to drive from Alabama to Atlanta, GA on Monday mornings, told me he had to wait till the sun came up to leave for Atlanta.  Otherwise,  he'd have drive with mobile homes being towed illegally at high speeds into Georgia.

  2. Mark,

Glad you got the info you needed!

I'll be interested in what works out on the Glidden rotation.  I guess 2020 will be a footnote on a future list....

Sorry, Cheryl  and I will not be at Gettysburg.   I had three other judges from HNR talked into it. But now they have all decided to stay home. Oh well...

Tell Marion we said Hi, we'll miss you guys.

I've sent you a PM on your other issue.

  3. Mark,

This may help your searchList of long-timers from last year's Glidden.

Steve and Blanche Gordon, Thomasville, Ga, Steve = 52 Gliddens

Walter and Margie Frantz, Warfordsburg, PA, Walter = 41 Gliddens

Ron and Jan Shanholtzer,  Dayton, Va, Ron = 40 Gliddens

Ray and Nancy O'Hanlon, Putnam Valley, NY, both = 37 Gliddens

Don't know what kind of record keepers these folks are....

If all else fails, try Bob and Sally Murray, Lisbon, Ohio.  Sally knows the answer even before I think of the question!

  4. Gentlemen,  gentlemen,  gentlemen... I've never liked that much vinegar in my cake,  but to each their own!

Having chaired eight national meets and two tours over the last decade, along with tons of help from my region's membership, I have to say we've always received encouragement and support from the national office and board both for meets and tours.  Come to think of it, much of the wisdom I've received came from people like Wayne and Mark.  I've met many wonderful people showing,  judging, and touring and I'm thankful for each of them.

I perfectly understand the tension that Covid and a multitude of other things is placing on all of us. I spent four decades dealing with such things in my professional life.  Now is not the time to turn on each other, get angry, or presume that the  negative rumors are true.  My plan for when we get beyond these trying times is to enjoy our hobby even more!

  5. Bill,

Logistically, the Glidden has multiple planning issues which prove difficult even under "normal" times. If we had faced last year what you faced this year, I'd still be trying to recover! Hang in there!

Yes, I sure hope those go off.  Who thought that two tours plus maybe Hershey Saturday would be the only events held by national.

Nope, the was a National in Miami,  Florida in late February...

Where is trailer parking at Charlotte?  Last time I went it was down in a fenced-in hole.

    Earl,

    As the brochure says,

Special locations on the Speedway grounds at Charlotte AutoFair have been set aside for Antique Vehicle trailers, haul-ers, RVs and motor homes. All must be self contained. All the spaces are assigned and must be pre-registered. Credentials and maps will be issued to you for these special reserved locations. Full-time, secured trailer parking is provided Thursday night through Sunday morning at 10 AM.

    Let me add,

The closest exit from the trailer lots is an eighth of a mile from the show field. Trailer parking is not in a hole. Everyone who registers by the March 14 deadline will receive credentials, maps and directions by mail.

  8. AM stations have been declining since the 70s, when I was driving my MGB daily. Doubt that it will get better.

Medium wave (MW) is the part of the medium frequency (MF) radio band used mainly for AM radio broadcasting. For Europe the MW band ranges from 526.5 kHz to 1606.5 kHz, using channels spaced every 9 kHz, and in North America an extended MW broadcast band ranges from 525 kHz to 1705 kHz, using 10 kHz spaced channels.

The FM broadcast band, used for FM broadcast radio by radio stations, differs between different parts of the world. In Europe, Australia[1] and Africa ((defined as International Telecommunication Union (ITU) region 1)), it spans from 87.5 to 108 megahertz (MHz)

  9. When you say "First show I went to they placed it in DPC. I though  as you noted 35a.", I assume "they" was the team captain for 35a in consultation with the chief judge?

Nothing wrong with DPC. We own three DPC cars, which we do show and tour. But mainly we drive them.

There is a National Award for Post War DPC  cars "not only as works of art but for the fun of driving on the highways.  This award is given to a pre-war and post-war vehicle."
