On ford model a and v8,and i believe also LZ,oil can run from gearbox to rear axel, when front of car is jacked.Could be the reason.Birger
  2. Anybody on this list having experience with valves with straight stem and solid valve guides from Mac`s,positive/negative.Im told they will give less oilburning. Will they last as long as originals?Birger
  3. Hello Bill. The knocking noice got worse and i found one hydraulic push rod where the ball valve was stock ,couldnt get it to work, so I ordered a new.Fantastic you can still get it.Birger
  4. Thanks .I just wanted to be sure the LZ had an acceptable pressure, wich it seems to be reading your replys.Just a petty that one lifter stopped working after 20 min,so off with one cylinderhead and inletmanifol again.Birger
  5. Yesterday I startet up the engine, after changing back to hydraulic lifters.I have an improved oilpump and oilpressure at idle is 30psi and high rev is 50 psi.Is this too much? What should correct pressure be?Merry Christmas Birger
  6. LZ 39 conv.coupe.Comparing waterchannels on engine top and cylinderheads there is a big differennce in patterns. On engine left between cyl 2/3 and 4/5 and right between cyl 8/9 and 10/11 are holes messuring 2"x13/16".Cylinderheads and gaskets only got holes of app.9/32 size.Do I have wrong cylinderheads? If not, would it be preferable to grind holes in cylinderheads to match engine?Birger
  7. I changed my ford v8 1936 to 12 volt.I didnt do anything to the starter,it still turns the same way.And until now it has been working for 6 years, with lots of start ups,no problems so far.Birger
  8. Im almost new to this list.I live in Denmark and bought a lz 39 convertible coupe 2 month ago.I have posted a few questions to this, and I must say, there has been immidiate respons each time.If it wasnt for this list, I had probably demolished my cam,as the previous owner installed mec.lifters without changing the cam. Thanks to this list(readers)I was gently guided through the process of changing back to hyd.lifters.Before I was a model A and later a v8 enthusiast.Even though you can transfer a lot of your experience to LZ from these cars, its allways nice to get advices from experienced LZ enthusiast. Best regards Birger
  9. Can anyone tell me if the ring and pinion on LZ 39 is the same as for Ford v8 1935-48?If it is would the car overhead if changing to 3,54 to 1 ratio?Birger
  10. The oilsupportvalve in front of fuelpushrod was blocked,I removed the device and oil is now comming out at the little by-passvalve under capnut.Under frontcapnut there is a ball and spring which moves freely. If I understand all this correct,Ill have to mount new capnuts, both at rear and in front-capnuts without drilled holes in top?If everything is working, should oil then come out of small holes in valveliftercylinders? Thanks again-Birger
  11. Taking off the inletmanifol there is a coppertube going from front of fuelpushrod and forward to frontwall of valvechamber. Is this part of oilpressuresystem for the hydraulic lifters? The oilpressure that activates the hyd.lifters,is it coming from the camchamber or is coming via the 2 small holes in valveliftercylinders? When cranking the engine, should oil then come out of these 2 small holes?Sorry for my bad English, but tecnical matters are not easy to explain.Thanks-Birger
  12. Thanks for the warning.I have just bought this car,and seller told me that he was suggested to change to solid lifters to safe oilpressure. He also changed oilpump to an improved type,so I hope it will do no harm going back to hydraulic.Birger
  13. What should valveclearence be on this engine with solid lifters.Birger
