I have a '68 DELTA 88 Holiday Coupe. OLDSMOBILE is lettered across the top of the bumper on this car. I would assume the same for a Delmont coupe but not positive.

Check to see if there is a blockage of the brake line to one of the rear wheels or possibly a crushed hard line. Sounds like one of the rear brakes is no actuating.
Good luck

Don't know what you have there, but is not the correct '55 V8. If you can find the block casting # at the rear of the eng LH side just above the oil filter, large GM with adjacent #, it should identify the eng. Best guess is it is a mid to late '60's 327 or 350.

If Mr. Cohen is interested in an unrestored '68 Olds 88 Holiday Coupe (23,000 miles) in Virginia Beach, I would be happy to communicate with him. I can certainly tell him MY motivations etc. I know it is not NY, NJ, or Ct, but electronically we can handle it I'm sure.

Went into the Navy right out of High School in 1958. Spent the next 26+ years as an aircraft electrician and aircraft maintenance officer. Retired from that life in 1985. Along the way the Navy was good enough to provide me with the opportunity to get my Masters in Public Administration so I went to work for the City of Virginia Beach for the next 10 years as an administrator in Public Utilities Dept. Left that gig in '96 to play with my cars. Wife (Toni) of 47 years loves the hobby and all the folks in TRAACA.

Glad to see this will be resolved. I for one, think that with the availability of good repro headlights there is no reason NOT to require the correct T3 lamps for the required cars.

Dave,
Thanks for the input. I think, that with the widespread availability of the correct reproduction lamps that a rule stating simply that GM vehicles 1956 through 1972 should be equiped with the correct T3 lamps. That would deferentiate between the owner willing to bring his car to the "as delivered" condition vs. one not willing to go the extra step.

Shop Rat,
If the "Rule Book" is not the definative answer, and your notes from 1994 are; then how are the rest of the judges to get the correct information.

Shop Rat,
The only reference I find in the Judging Manual to headlights is under EXTERIORS on page 20 item #13. That item does not clarify the question as it says NO deduction will be given for lamps with adjusting tips, a reference to T3 but specific. With 5 points alotted per headlamp there is certainly an opportunity for at least 1 point deduction for the incorrect lamp installed when they are available to the restorer. I know that I intend to deduct if I run across this situation in view of specific direction otherwise.

Shop Rat,
Why would lack of the proper T3 lamps NOT be a deduction? They are available in reproduction, and the owner who goes the extra mile to secure them should be rewarded. I'm sure you would deduct if the improper hose clamps were installed or the incorrect size tire was on the car. I thought the idea was to bring the car as delivered?

To the best of my knowledge, T3 headlights were first used by GM in 1956 and were used across the brand in one form or another through 1972. Manufactured by Guide and the T3 was a Guide method of alignment.

Steve, glad you enjoyed the school. Tidewater Region periodially puts on our own Judging School to inform our members and to grow our own judges. Remember, this is not an authorized AACA school but our instructor Bob Roughton is as qualified as anyone to put on on. Suggest you attend the National Meet in New Bern, NC in May to really get an appreciation for judging. You can go to the school and get your apprentice judging in one Meet. Call me or email me for more info.

Yes, you can lube the head. I would use a light instrument oil. With the speedo assy removed, gain access to the speedo head. You will find a small 1/4 in. brass plug which will give you access to the shaft which can be lubed. I have done several with great success.

Does anyone have a good source for repair parts(cosmetic and mechanical) for an ECO 96 Airmeter. Online preferred but not necessary.
Thanks,

Any idea of the number of cars you can expect? Is there a place for the "Old '32?

Pat, the red primer is only used on the floorboards. The #7777 is the correct paint to use on the inner fenders, both sides.

That is the VIN for your car. © indicates BelAir; (53) is the Year of production and I would suspect one of those (O) is for the plant Oakland, the rest of the number is production sequence.
If your title doesn't match, you have a problem you need to work out with DMV. GOOD LUCK

I have a '68 Delta 88. Refrigerant has been lost due to a leaky front seal in the compressor. When repaired I would like to convert to R134. What should I look for in the way of problems doing this procedure? Anybody have success with this?
Radial vs. Bias Ply
in Oldsmobile - General
Posted
I need to replace the original 855x14 Bias ply tires on my '68 Delta 88. I know the optional tire was a radial 225x15 but was considering putting on 225x14 radials as I don't want to buy the 15 inch wheels. Can I expect as good performance with the 14 inch radials? Or, would I be better served to get a set of correct reproduction 855x14 bias ply tires? Plan to show the car as unrestored or HPOF. will only be driving the car 1500-2500 miles per year.
