  1. how about a traveling BCA version of Overhaulin' where we all pitch in and tune crap out of Bill's

'55 ... then he buys us some steaks and Martinis .......

then .... on to CountryWill's to unchain his Straight 8 !!!! (that might cost him more than

    steaks & martinis, tho!)

How much we got in the BCA coffers for a travelin' road show like that?!?!

As long as Robert is in attendance and writing tech articles along the way for the Bugle, I'll endorse it! (Steak and Martini dependent, of course!) :)

  2. How in the world are you gonna fit that car into todays parking spots? LOL

So, we're having a car show this weekend at the new Buick dealer in town. The 2013 full size Buicks don't fit in the new parking spaces designed by the brilliant design engineer of the dealership, how well do you think a '58 and '59 Buick fit? It's going to be interesting parking these monsters. All the spaces were designed for Reattas I think....

  3. Mike, you talking trash again or did I understand that you car is really named Lucille? Or is that "Loose Wheel"?

Well, he does drive her hard and fast!

Must be the name, as Lucille is my roadwarrior. I drive her hard and put her away wet. Fact actually, every time she's left the garage this year, she's been rained on, even yesterday when I just pulled her out long enough to remove the front wheels on the '58 to change the shocks. She was out for a whopping hour and got rained on the only hour of the day it rained!

  4. We were told that 825 ballots were cast.

    Mike & Nancy Book, BCA # 9202

    BCA Office Managers

The spousal vote always throws the figure off.

That sounds like the same 11% that vote every year, maybe a 1% rise. Unsatisfying. :(

  5. Had some fun with the putty knife yesterday on the '59....scraped off MOST of the grease from the rear axle and torque tube.

I was too covered in grease to even think about breaking out the degreaser and scrubby pad to go any further...The rear pinion seal has been leaking on Lucille since I got her roughly 7 years ago. I'm hesitant to tackle this job, as the torque tube itself does not leak much, if at all. I have to put about half a quart a year into the rear end.

On the plus side, nothing behind that joint will ever rust!

And yes, I had to consume the Leinenkugel to make room for the grease chunks! :)

  6. I had a project car parked up next to the house one winter. Twp came and threatened to fine me $500 for parking it on the grass. So I parked 4 cars on the street for the rest of the year, making everyone drive around them, especially the snow plows. No one complains anymore....

  7. Another CLOSE election! 38 votes separating 2nd from 6th and 14 votes separating 3rd and 6th.

Congrats to all who ran for making it a close race.

I look forward to working with Marck, Chuck, and Paul.

Mike, how many total ballots were received this time around? It looks like about 1090, which would be about 15%. A slight uptick from last year?

  8. My thoughts too. I believe a person could buy this, get a decent paint job, detail the rest and be riding in a nice driver 1st gen Riviera for under 12 grand. Darn, I'm a little short...by about $11,999.98. Great color for a Riviera.

You mean the Earl Scheib paint job is out?

I guess there's always the Ambassador service at MAACO....

If I didn't have 3 too many already....

  9. Continuing saga of my '58 Super.

Got stranded again Saturday night. Previous to the problem I was running rich. Couldn't get her to run right, adjusting the mixture screws didn't make a difference, then she wouldn't start. Pulled the airhorn and the drivers's side fuel bowl was empty. Pulled the carb and found one of the plugs on the bottom turned to jelly. Looks like it has been replaced previously.

The carb is a Carter 2380S. ('59 carb)

I am looking for the aluminum plug that goes in the bottom, I believe it is under the primary jet?

I measured it with a drill bit and it comes out to 15/64ths? Might be a 1/4"? About a 1/4" deep as well.

I believe they were originally made of aluminum.

    Any sources?

I've emailed several carb rebuilders and parts places but haven't received any responses.
