  1. Facebook ad says SOLD. Thank God for that. Too close to me - I don't need this thing sitting around...

Sold new at Blake Cadillac-Oldsmobile in Harrisburg, PA. Delivered to owner in Linglestown.

Blake Cadillac-Olds would become Titus. Titus would become Brenner. I bought my '68 Delta Custom Holiday sedan from Brenner in 1990.

According to the Protect-o-plate, the original color was Teal Frost with a Parchment vinyl top. Interesting options - discs, power seat, cornering lamps, power antenna, 8-track, power trunk (despite the screwdriver sticking out of the lock...) - no air and no floor console - too bad...

I don't see an engine option on the build sheet. Build sheet dated 10-17-67, deliver date 3-5-69 - she sat on the lot for a while.

Would it be too much trouble................

    To, what...

Pull it out and take some decent pictures of a car you want top dollar for? But, then you would see the big dent in the aluminum on the passenger fender.

    Or, to spell Oldsmobile correctly?

I do no know the car. The FB ad says Monroe, NJ, but the guy's profile says he lives in Death Valley, CA. Those are a pretty good distance apart.

The car is shown as the background image on the guy's profile and a bead molding can be seen, so it's not an early car - but it is pre-Delcotron. Also, yes, it appears the headliner has been replaced vinyl.

    Still concerned about the location...

  3. If the body section of the shop manual isn't enough, you may have to seek out a Fisher Body manual. That's not really a single manual, but a multitude of bulletins for different car lines. Nothing '54 specific turned up on eBay...

The following link will take you to a series of 9 informative articles that the late Clay Mollman published in Runabouts to Rockets in the late 90s. Runabouts to Rockets is the magazine of the National Antique Oldsmobile Club. Clay was at one time our magazine editor and webmaster. I think the original articles that appeared in the magazine had illustrations.

These statements are just my opinion, OLDSFAN will know for sure.

    I've been summoned...

    Ha!

Yes, according to the brochure specifications D88s were equipped with 371s, But rocketraider's mother had a new '60 with a 394. So who knows? I have to believe Glenn - I've known him for more years than I care to admit.

Incidentally, Mecum just ran a white '60 S88 SceniCoupe through at Indy. No a/c, but power windows, seat, WonderBar and full tinted glass. Price with buyer's premium was $39.6k.

  5. Yes, you have to drop the column, remove the lower beauty panels and drop that entire cast instrument cluster. Fortunately, radio access should be pretty easy. Been there, done that, but it was 20 years ago.

What I do remember vividly is being careful when reinstalling the column, to make sure that the PRNDL needle doesn't get hung up/bent. And, not to get the wiring harness pinched when re-clamping the column - that makes smoke (rear fast) when you turn on the ignition... 😔

I'd be in the market for one of these in any color but this gray or black- and seems that's all that ever come up for sale. Surely those colors aren't the only ones that survived.

Wish I had known that - I'd have sold you mine. Trophy Blue. Great grandpa bought it new. I sold it to a guy from CA who "bombed" it and flipped it.

  7. I'm hearing rumors about a separate area in the car corral for street rods, hot rods and cars not owned by AACA members. Apparently it has appeared on the Hershey Region Facebook page, which I can not access from where I currently am.

    Say it ain't so!

Which 350 came in 1980 Electras?

    Depends...

    Let's assume it's a 49-state car - then it would be a 350 (X) built by Buick.

A California car would have the Oldsmobile 350 (R).

  9. Glenn,

The '60 shop manual says that both the low and high compression 371s in the 88 series are painted gold. The 394 for S88s and 98s is painted green. I see nothing in the prices/equipment folder about the 394 being optional in the 88. Then again, I see nothing in that folder about the 88 W-2 high compression option, either. Maybe Mama knew somebody...

  10. In 1941 and 1942 Oldsmobile offered the 60 series in 6 and 8 cylinder versions, both on the 119" wheelbase frame. The 1948 eight cylinder engine and Hydra-Matic should be very similar to those used in 1941. I see no reason why they wouldn't fit - they built 'em that way.
