  1. Hi there Robert, I would say that rebuilding a flathead six is very straight forward. A good machine shop can do the valve seats and valves. You will likely need to rebore it as cylinder wear is signifigant on those old engine castings. There is a fellow in New England that has parts and also Egge at http://www.egge.com/ that can supply parts.
  2. Single BEST ? That's a difficult choice between so many... My first TC was purchased in '95 just prior to the TC National in Indianapolis. My wife and I joined TC America and were able to make the cross country trek with a group of owners. Driving 1 lap at that famous speedway was probably the BEST. Many others since then but I'll put that as #1. BTW my wife just reminded me that 5 years ago today, April 9th, we were married at the Flamingo in Laughlin at the TC America National.

    gear ratio change

Having put a '63 Plymouth gear in a '58 Fury, and having worked on MOPARS for nearly 50 years - My guess is that it will. Good luck
  4. [color:"blue"] Nobody has suggested the hub bearings yet. There is a place for real noise. A similar sound can come from cupped tires which would explain the correction which occurred when installing new tires on your other TC.
  5. I don't have a professional that completely reconditions speedometers, BUT I AM the guy that can repair your speedometer while you wait. I see that you live on the other side of the country so you may just want to ship it to me for repair. Buying a used one will probably give you the same results as you have now with yours. I AM Hemi with a real live shop for TCs and other Chrysler products. Check out the picture in my profile.
  6. Could those of you with lots of experience with them give me a basic breakdown on what YOU wished you had known before you bought your first one? Particularly, here's what I would like to know: 1. What years would you recommend for purchase? What, if any, years would you recommend I avoid? Why? I personaly like the 1989 models without the air bags and also because that is the only year that the Turbo ll engine was available. Most '90 & '91 TCs have the 3.0L engine which is not particularly exciting to own. They also have the first year of the 604 aka 41TE transaxle which has had many failures. 2. Any particular mechanical or electronic problems the cars are prone to develop? If so, what age or mileage do they usually develop these problems? 604 Transaxle failures, ABS problems, rear brake caliper problems, 2.2L engine develops lots of leaks. 3. I'd like to get one with a factory airbag. Do these systems have any unique problems? Not that I know of. 4. Any special appearance items that develop? I've already read about the portholes that seem to want to crack or fog. Anything eles? Dashboard leather shrinkage and seat/armrest leather drying and splitting. 5. Any particular parts becoming hard to find? Most body parts and ABS brake parts. 6. What is the one problem that would cause you to walk away from a used TC for sale if you saw this problem on the car for sale? You got to be kidding. Since I can fix most anything wrong, I would say one that had a fuel fire under the hood. 7. And now, the BIG question for any convertible: Are they water-tight in the rain, or do they all leak? If so, where should I look for the leaks? Are the parts (weatherstripping, etc.) available to fix the leaks? Both of ours leak. We keep a large cotton towel with us when on long trips. Windshield header leaks are rather common. We have even had snow coming in which can be rather comical. Bugs have a way of making it through also.
  7. To remove the head, do not try to remove manifolds or turbo while head is still on the block. Remove it all, together. Then remove manifolds. [color:"blue"]
  8. I'm working on the list you sent me. I have some of the parts. Hemi...
