  1. Thank you V12 Bill..Always can count on you for a response.
  2. Anyone have a lead on who has radio noise suppressors and how many are needed? and their location?. Radio works in my '48 Lincoln Continental but when you run the engine, the static interference takes over. Someone has suggested ground straps? has anybody had success in using them? or any other suggestions to eliminate the static, other than turn the radio off
  3. My, '48LC, is the exact position you have described yours. To the left and almost horizontal.
  4. Does anyone have the specs/acceptable tolerance for allowable front wheel play before determining whether or not kingpins have gone bad for a '48 LC. Thank you
  5. My '48 LC V-12 has a small but steady oil leak which is coming from the rear main seal. Its probably one of those things that can be put off but I don't like seeing the oil drops on my garage floor. Here's the question, I understand that the current seal is made from rope, is there a subsitute (i.e.rubber etc) that would be better and longer lasting. Thank you for your response.
  6. Thank you everyone, for your suggestions and your emails offering assistance. I worked on the hood yesterday, by taking a members suggestion of pushing the hood gently towards the cowl and then rocking it right and left, it "popped" open. Made my day!. I'm thankful for the help you great folks have offered. Remember, if your are considereing using a restoration shop in Northern Ohio call me first and in any event check references for any shop you plan on using, carefully..Regards.
  7. V12 Lincoln...Please send the information on the tool. Thank you
  8. Before you consider using a restoration shop in the Northern Ohio area, you may want to speak with me first relative, to my experience with one in particular. Check references carefully, I didnt!
  9. I had this horrible experience dealing with a restoration shop in North Central Ohio. They did repair work on the hood ornament, hood touch up and hood alignment on my '48LC plus I wanted some additional minor cosmetic work done. After they had my car in the shop for 6 days and after the hood repair but before the other work, they then presented me with a service agreement (contract) that I believe my attorney would have trouble understanding, given all the weasel words. There was also some other conduct on their part that was highly questionable.Bottom line..Yesterday was the first chance I had to do some detail work in the engine compartment( we finally saw the sun in Cleveland) since bringing the car home from the shop, about a month ago. The hood will NOT open. After pulling on the inside release and gently trying to lift the hood by its sides, it just won't budge and obviously locked,I did hear the hood release open from inside the car but the hood will not "pop". Any suggestions on how to get to the hood release to free the hood from the locking mechanism? This issue has me really upset. You take a car to a shop, expect professional work, only to have it come back worse then what you brought in.Being mechanically challenged, I would appreciate your help and suggestions in getting the hood release working.Anyone considering having repair/restoration work done at a Northern Ohio restoration shop, may want to speak with me first, regarding my experiences.I will certainly identify the shop, in private conversation...Thank you and Regards.
  10. Thanks, Phil..I'll get in touch with Don Randall and see what he can do. As stated, I still argue with myself regarding the trailering but along with my recent AARP membership is the increasing need for creature comforts such as A/C, stereo and piece of mind. Just like everyone else on this forum, I have a "few bucks" tied up in that LC and certainly want to keep her reasonably protected. Thanks again for your response, its appreciated..Regards
  11. Thanks Don and Diz for your response. I did orginally think about an open trailer primarily because of cost and frequency of use. I have been going back and forth with the pro & cons. I do need to keep weight in the equation because of the tow (GMC P/U 2X) vehicle.I do plan on using a trailer for some of the long distance shows and driving the LC to the area ones.I have found in at least Northern Ohio enclosed used trailers are selling at a premium and darn close to new prices.Maybe I should look at it as an investment and opposed to an expense?..Thanks again guys...
  12. I'm looking at a car hauler for my '48 LC. Question is 16 feet long enough or should it be 18'? I believe the car length is 18' and inches, but I was told you measure, for car hauler length purposes, from front wheel to rear wheel? First time buyer for a hauler and would greatly appreciate any advise or words of caution regarding what I should or should not consider. I'll be pulling it with a 2000 GMC Sierra, small 8, 2X2.
  13. Welcome we are glad to have you..
  14. Anyone have a good referral for a body shop and mechanic (V-12) in the Northern Ohio area??..Thanks
  15. Thanks Dale, I took the '48 into the shop to have some minor cosmetic work done and while it was on the lift they noticed a 3" play in both front wheels, as well as, issues with the motor mounts. Did not make my day $$$..Thanks for your help, I'll contact your suggestion.
  16. Does anyone have a source for kingpins and motor mounts for a 1948 Lincoln Continental V-12. Are these parts interchangeable from any other vehicle? Any help, suggestions and referral are greatly appreciated.
  17. Is the membership cycle based on a rolling 12 months or a calendar year. I joined in Oct '04 and only received two copies of the magazine. I did not receive Jan-Feb's which means either my membership expired or the mailperson swiped it. I understand he's one of those no count street rodders.
  18. Thank you, I appreciate your response.
  19. I'm looking for info or pictures please for the correct location of decals in the engine compartment, such as for the air filter, glass windshield washer etc. Decals came with the car, at time of purchase but now need to install. Pictures of engine compartments would be great...Thank you and Regards.
  20. I value the opinons on this forum and am asking your thoughts. I purchased my restored '48LC after it had sat in storage for 3+years. It had been completely rechromed by Paw Paw Plating in Michigan, who I understand is not longer in business.I noticed a small bubble, about half the size of a thumb tack head, on the driver side grill panel. This will be my first season taking this car to the shows and I am having a hard time deciding whether to "bite the bullet"($$$) and have it removed and rechromed now or see if the bubble gets larger and repair it after the car show season. What effect if any will this flaw have on judging or on the value of the vehicle??..What do you think folks!!
  21. I don't have a parts/repair manual. Can someone tell me how to remove the grille from a 48 Linc Continental. Is it two pieces?..I would really appreciate any help you folks can offer. Thanks
