  1. And here all along, I thought God was punishing me for the sins of my youth by giving me this V-12. Everytime, I get frustrated with the '48 LC and want to pull that D@#$ V-12 out and replace it with a 350 chevy with a high rise Edelbrock, I think about the smiles this car gives to the young folks and their minds filled with curious questions regarding the history of that ole' Lincoln. At that point I settle down and enjoy the sound of the 6 volt starting the "old girl". My .$02
  2. I was told last weekend at a car show that if I put a teaspoon of brake fluid in with the oil, it will help to solidify the gaskets and seals in my V-12 and therefore stop the "blue smoke special"...True? or was he sniffing the WD-40?...Regards
  3. Speaking of the "blue smoke special" I heard the other day that if you put a teaspoon of brake fluid in the V-12, it will solidify the gaskets and valve seals and stop the smoking. True or an "old hot-rodders tale"?

  5. In the absence of receiving my repro owners manual can someone please tell me how to engage and disengage the overdrive in a '48 LC V-12. Also, when is it appropriate to use the overdrive? highway driving, in town or above a certain speed?. Is there anything I should be careful in doing when using the overdrive feature? Any help/advise is greatly appreciated. Regards

  7. Inside of my '48LC gets very (hot) warm when driving. The heater switch under the dash is in the "off" position and therefore the heater under the dash appears to be off. However, I feel heat under the front seat from the seat heaters. Is there a separate switch for those seat heaters? or may I trouble someone for brief explanation as to how those under seat heaters operate? Thanks and Regards.

  10. A local Cleveland restoration shop quoted me a price of $10,000 (Yep that's 10 big ones) to pull, rebuild and re-install my V-12 in a 48 LC. Not being mechanically astute but also not stupid this seems to me to be an outrageous amount. Has anybody had a recent complete rebuild and in what price range? What should a typical(if there is such thing) and fair price to pay for a engine rebuild.Keep in mind that many of the external parts generator,starter,carb,water pumps etc. are either new or rebuilt.Always appreciate your help. YES!!!Having nothing to loose because the appointment had been made to have the seat re-upholstered, my wonderful wife applied a laundry cleaner "Shout" on the oil stain, followed by 2 applications of "Woolite Carpet Cleaner" the oil stain came out without any residue markings whatsoever. I was lucky!!!

  15. Does a electric fuel pump minimize or eliminate vapor lock in a V-12? And if so, where should the pump be located, so that it is not obvious, for judging purposes?...Thank you
  16. I would like to thank everyone for their responses and words of encouragement. Having already made an appointment, with an Upholsterer, to replace the seat fabric ($$$) my wife, as a last resort applied a laundry cleaner named "Shout". After drying, she followed up with Woolite upholstery cleaner. Much to everyone's surprise,the stain came out without any marks, residual or otherwise. A little bit of luck and a great wife really pays off!. In the future, the only thing that does on those seats is my butt!!!..Thanks again for all your help.
  17. Does an electric fuel pump on a Lincoln V-12 minimize or solve vapor lock issues? and if so, where should the pump be installed to be less conspicious for judging purposes?...Thank you..
  18. While preparing my 48 Lincoln Continental for a show, I took a bottle of Windex off a shelf and didnt notice there was motor oil on the bottom of the bottle. It was sitting next to a oil funnel. I placed the bottle on the wool upholstery and was sicken when I saw the stain. My wife tried very hard to get it out with Woolite and another mild detergent. The dark part of the stain came out but you can still plainly see the outline of the bottle bottom. I am sick over this and am hoping that someone would be able to suggest a cleaner that will remove this stain. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions...Thank you
  19. While preparing for a car show I took a bottle of Windex off the shelf in the garage not seeing it had oil on the bottom of the bottle, as a result of sitting next to a funnel. Like a dumb a$$ I laid the Windex on the front seat wool upholstery and the oil left a stain. My wife tried to get it out with Woolite upholstery cleaner and another mild detergent, its better but you can see plainly see the stain. I am really sick over this and can't believe I was so stupid but I am hoping that someone will have a suggestion as what will work on wool, as a stain remover, for motor oil. I'd apprecaiate any help,suggestions. Thanks

Prior to the generator and regulator being replaced the V-12 typically after starting the engine, the amp gauge would go to full charge and eventually work its way back to the middle of the gauge. After running awhile the amp needle would stay just a hair to the right of the center amp gauge mark. With the new rebuilt generator and new regulator it now reads in the middle of the gauge on the center mark and will go to charge only upon acceleration of the motor. Is this normal??
  22. I was told recently that my V-12, which runs just below the high side on the gauge but has yet to overheat , would run cooler, if the thermostats were removed. What do you guys think?.
