I let him drive my R.W.B. Hurst SC/Rambler while I was driving his 1970 AMX !!!! This mans name is Martin and he did 14 months in Iraq. He had made a good friend over there but he did not make it home,he was only 21 years old. Thomas loved to duck hunt and work on old cars (God Bless him).

Martin and I have become good friends and his father owns a 1932 Ford that they are working on.

Just thought I would show you some pictures. Martin is driving my SC and is also the man behind the P.O.W. Flag !!!!!!!

I SAY THANKS TO ALL THE TROOPS AND ALL THE VETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because of you all I did not have to go to War.

I 'm sure I'm burning you all out on this SC/Rambler but I just had to post this photo.I'm so proud of all that has happened for the car that I can hardly sleep at night. I'm just like a little kid as I walk out of my way in the house just to look at the First Junior trophy again and again !!!!!!

The painting of my SC was done by Danny Whitfield , www.dannywhitfield.com .The trophy on the left in photo is just one of the Class Winner trophies from Keystone Raceway back in 1974. The one on the right is the A.A.C.A. First Junior trophy. These events were 31 years apart and both were held near Pittsburgh PA. I get a real kick out of this as the SC went full circle as a unrestored car. This is just so cool.

Thanks again as this has been a big time in my life !!!!!!!

FREEDOM=AMC (My AMC friend just got back from his tour in Iraq back in March). Thanks to all you Vets I have not had to go to War !!!!! I always think of the ones who didn't make it home. I WILL NEVER FORGET THEM !!!!!!!!

  3. 852My_SCRambler_874-med.jpg Thanks, I really like Buicks also. I thought about staying home also but decided I was not going to miss the fun. The SC/ramblers were built for fun in 1969 and I'm going to keep it fun no matter what. I'm enjoying the car way to much to take it off the road to restore it and I wouldn't enjoy it anymore even if I did.I will worry about that years from now (I will buy what parts I can find between now and then).I bet you can have a hard time getting some parts for Buicks also.

I did take this photo when driving to the show to put in my scrapbook for the car.

I go by Mars often in late summer as I deliver stuff to the college in Slippery Rock. Maybe we can hook up sometime. I stop at the book store off the Mars exit as they have alot of old car books. Maybe we could meet there someday.

    thanks,

    matt

I'm trying to come up with a plan so I can get the car to Hershey for even more fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get to park beside cars like this kaiser at the local shows!!!!!

I drove my Hurst SC/Rambler 40 miles to the show in very hard rain, never thought I would do that but I really wanted to make it to this AACA event. If my SC was restored I wouldn't had driven it there.

There were still lots of nice cars even with the bad weather (thanks to those who still came as I got to see some real Classics) and I had a great time and met some very nice people.

I didn't go looking to win anything. I was already a winner by just being able to buy my Dream car !!!! It was top shelf stuff that my SC earned its way into the RACE CAR CLASS and never thought it could get any larger then that !!!

I stayed for the awards as I had a friend (Hoye Walls) going for his senior award with his 1934 Ford. I'm glad to say he won it!!! I was then surprised to hear my name called for winning 1st JUNIOR !!!! It was great to hear the HURST SC/RAMBLER named called out for all those people to hear. I was very proud!!!!!!!!!!

As I have posted before that back in the late 70's and early 80's my Farther had some great cars, three Packards and the super rare Wills Sainte Claire. We went to a lot of AACA meets and had a great time but never won anything.I know that being in the race car class open up a door that let my car in with a few modifications which the car has. I'm so lucky that the car has a race history and that the previous owner had kept everything along with old photos so I could prove it !!!!!!!

I called my Mom & Dad and told them what had happend and they could not had been happier !!! They said it brought back lots of fond memories for them. You see my parents took me and my brother everwhere with them as we were their fun !!!! They did not go on vacations without us. We were always included in what they did and the old cars just brought us closer together,we didn't go to the beach that much as we wanted to go to big car shows and there were none better then the AACA shows. Over 25 years later I'm back as a adult and can still say that this is still true of the AACA !!!!!!!!

Thanks to all of you that came up and talked to me about my car and I was very happy that many of you remembered them,as I was told by one man "how in the hell could you forget one"!!!!! This was lots of fun for me and I will never forget the one man that pulled a rag out of his pocket and waved it like he was starting a drag race when I was pulling on the showfield, that was cool!!!

The man that handed me my trophy said we don't uusually give these out to Ramblers (he was laughing)!!!!!! This was great as that is part of what makes owning it so much fun!!!!

I'm not old or rich and may only own a Rambler but I'm on top of the world because of it and am proud of what I own.

    I HAD A GREAT TIME !!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU A.A.C.A.

This is Bob(crazy)Crayton, the man that owned and raced my SC for thirty one years. He got a real kick that the SC was in HOT ROD and CAR CRAFT magazines and at the same time. I can't tell you how great it is for the SC to now be in the AACA also. It is great to have had the car in those magazines but is nothing compared to having the AACA race car plaque.

I hope I can now get some other people to think about restoring their car instead of rodding them all.

    thanks,

    Matt

With what little free time I had I went with my friend and saved this SC/rambler (A)paint scheme from a certin death. You might remember when I posted this along time ago. I did the dealing with the owner of this car and my friend that had the money and a garage to put it in bought it. We are just happy to get it inside before it is totaly shot. The car looks better in the photos then it really is.The motor and trans were in a different place many miles from where the car was. It took a few nights to get all the stuff together and put in it's new home. This took my car cleaning time away from me but I felt saving this car was much more important then cleaning mine for Greensburg. Hope you guys understand.

Being a trucker you never know when you will get some free time.

    thanks,

    Matt

The race car plaque has been added to the painting of my Hurst SC/Rambler.

    www.dannywhitfield.com

I'm real proud of this and the work is unreal when you see it in person. I hope to bring a print of it to the GREENSBURG SHOW.

I have had a few problems that came up in the last couple weeks. These problems have taken most of my free time so I have not been able to detail the SC like I wanted to for the show.It still looks nice but not what I wanted it to be, but like I said it is no perfect show car anyway. I'm looking forward to the show and the way things have been going I will be lucky to make it.

Can't wait to see all the great cars!!!!!!!!

    thanks,

    Matt

  8. Dizz,

those Funny cars are bad !!!! I wasn't really going to do anything at a AACA meet anyway. The SC/Rambler is so light it doesn't put out a lot of smoke anyway.

Have you ran that cool Vette you sent me a picture of yet ??? That thing should put on one heck of a show.I would love to hear it.

    thanks,

    Matt

  9. OK, lets see what trouble I can get into here. Can I do a BURNOUT !!!!!!!

I did leave a local show the other day and did a hard pull through 1st,2nd and 3rd at like 40mph sideways. where this was I could have only hurt my car and nothing else if it had gotten away from me. The people here in the local area loved it but I don't think it will fly at a AACA meet.

I am having alot of fun with this car in everyway !!!!! It is just cool as are many others.

    thanks,

    Matt

  10. Glad you saw that but my SC is far from being a show car. If it is to be a show car it needs taken apart and all cleaned up. I won that Chrysler Classic for the year because not many other AMC's showed up. Some of the AMC people just stick to them selfs to much. I enjoy getting the car out in front of all people and look at all the cool stuff that has happend for me because of this.I hope it brings more AMC people out of their shells !!!! My SC is playing on a high level simply because I have it out in front of people, not because it's the best one. It is just a Rare unrestored car that is seen,to me this makes it very rewarding and the car has earned it's right to stay how she is.

    thanks,

    Matt

  11. Great car. I learned to drive a standard on a 70 440 six-pack Challenger !!!!

My name and Hurst SC/Rambler was listed in Mopar Collector Guide a few months ago as my SC won the AMC class for the CHRYSLER CLASSIC EVENTS,see attachment. If you get the chance to go to one of these go as they are great.

on the street they were even better then a Hemi, again that is just my thought.

    thanks,

    Matt

This picture was taken in late 70's or early 80's. On the left you see my Dads 1926 Wills Sante Claire and on the right a unrestored DUSENBERG !!!!! They called this car the Green Hornet. It was owned by a man that had three Dusenberg's at the same time. He had owned them for many years and would bring them out to local shows. I got to go for a short ride in this car one time. All these great cars I have been telling you about in my post were all in my Home town of Clarksburg W.Va.

Get this, The man that had owned my Dads Wills for 50 years was also a great mechanic in Clarksburg and was very old. His name was Friday and still worked on old cars untill he was like 90. The man that owned the Dusenberg's was named

Clemons and was a very old lawyer. These to men didn't like each other one bit but any time Clemons needed those Dusenberg's worked on guess where he took them !!!!! Friday was very old school and had worked on them all though the years. He always said that if those Dusenberg's had been built like a Wills sante Claire they would have had something special !!!!!! Friday wasn't a chrome lover as a car was all about how good it was built. He was a tough man that was not fulled easily by anything.

Some of you might know of these Dusenberg's.

Note that everyone in this photo is looking at the Wills and not the Dusenberg, how often will you ever see that !!!!!!!!!!!!

    thanks,

    Matt

  13. please go below to see some of the greatest cars ever built !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.nashnut.com Don't let the Hot Rod scare you off on the main page or you will miss out.

Look to the left and you will see PHOTO GALLERY. Click right below that and it will take you to the Auburn,Cord,Dusenberg museum !!!!!!!! Lot of great photos of car in there. I like the Tan 1932 Studebaker President the most,it just looks so strong like it has nothing to prove.

    matt

  14. JT,

The Packard has 24,000 miles on it and my brother said it came from Berry Motors in ST.Louis Missiouri. It was to become a Nissan dealer.

The car was repainted once years ago and everything else is perfect. The inside is in unreal condition !!!!!

    thanks,

    Matt
