  1. Thanks Frank, It looks like mine has an engine-fed torque converter, according to your descriptions. Thanks for all the help. I'll see if I can get the girl up and running. -Tom
  2. Hey everyone, I have a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe (model C-60, straight six flathead engine) with a bit of an oil leak. I dropped the pan and checked everything out, and the rear main bearing seal looks just fine; it's not leaking anywhere. But when I removed the bottom cover plate on the fluid drive/cluch housing, I was greeted by a sickening sight. The front half of the unit was completely dry, but the rear half was dripping with oil. My first question is: which does my car have, a fluid drive or an engine-fed torque converter? I'm thinking it has the engine-fed torque converter, because my engine oil level keeps going down. I have a shop manual, but according to it, the C-60 Windsor could have either a fluid drive or a torque converter. My second question is: how can I get the unit out of the car without pulling the whole engine/tranny. I would like to spend as little money as possible on this fix, and I don't have an engine hoist. Any info would be a GREAT help. Thanks, Tom

  4. Hi, My voltage regulator is having a fit! The circuit breaker won't close on its own, and when I close it, it won't open at idle speed. Also, when the breaker is closed, there is no limit on the amperes being put out. I figured I had nothing to loose, so I took the thing apart. I filed down the points (with a fingernail file), and reset the air gaps to the specifications, but it still didn't work. I am wondering if any of you have suggestions as how to fix this. And if not, will a voltage regulator from a '53 8 cylinder work in the six cylinder (Windsor Deluxe)? Thanks for any info, Tom

  6. Hi everyone, I have a set of 11" Chrysler brake shoes that I don't need. I was wondering if anyone knew the application(s) for these shoes. They fit 11" drums and are 2" wide. Thanks for any info. -Tom

  8. Hi, For the rear wheels, you need a wheel hub puller. You can probably rent one from an auto parts store. There are two adjusting cams on the back. I would suggest backing these off ALL THE WAY before pulling the hub. Then you loosen the nut on the axle about half way; don't take it all the way off. Bolt on the puller, tighten is up, and smack it with a sledge hammer. When it is stopped by the nut, loosen it some more. Keep the nut of so that the drum doesn't fly off and break your shin. There is a tapered pin that holds the drum onto the axle. Don't lose it. For the front, try it by hand first. If that doesn't work, use the puller. There is no pin on the front. Hope this helps, and good luck with the Windsor -Tom
  9. What size (diameter) drums does it have? I have some 11"x2" shoes that I'm looking to get rid of.
  10. Hi. I'm looking for a set of rear brake shoes for a '53 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe (12" x 2" shoes.) I have a set for '46-'49 Chryslers that I would like to sell or trade. I'm pretty sure they're 11" x 2". Thanks, Tom
  11. Thanks Frank. Not the answer I would have liked to hear, but good information. Thanks again, Tom
  12. Hi, I know I've asked a question almost identical to this before, but I need to be sure. Will brake shoes from a 1954 Chrysler Imperial fit a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe? I'm not sure if the holes will line up with the adjusting cams. Is there a difference in the holes? Thanks for any help. Tom
  13. Hi guys, Does anyone know what car used a Mopar model 606 radio? I was told that this came out of a '53 Chrysler, but it doesn't seem to fit mine right. Thanks for any info, Tom
  14. Hi, Will brake shoes for a 1953 plymouth or dodge work for a '53 Chrysler Windsor? Thanks, Tom
  15. I moved the lever and it moved the valve, so that part is okay. I'm wondering what the copper wire is for. It's not like Chrysler to put a wire on where it doesn't do anything. Thanks for the suggestion. Tom
  16. It's summertime, and my heater is broken. The problem is that it is stuck on! The car is a 1953 Chrysler Windsor. I bought this car at the start of the summer, and the heater has not shut off since then. I took the cover off under the hood, and the cable is hooked up, but I noticed a piece of copper wire attached to the valve. I traced this wire back into the passenger compartment where it was pushed up into the heater vent, but not connected to anything. Does anyone know what this wire is for? I thought it might be a ground wire or something, but I don't know much about heaters. Thanks for any thoughts. Tom

  18. Hi everyone, I am wondering what years and makes (Dodge, Plymouth, ect.) of MC's would work for a '53 Chrysler Windsor. Thanks, Tom

    Lip seal

Hello again, This is a question for all the Chrysler buffs. Car you replace the rope-type rear main bearing seal with a lip-type one? I don't know much about the difference, but a guy said that the newer rope seals fail easily. Also, where car I get a hold of this seal? Thanks, Tom
  20. Thanks guys! I'll see if I can get a hold of the tool. Thanks again, Tom
  21. Hi, As some of you know, I got a '53 Chrysler Windsor a few months ago. Great car! Anyway, it's been dripping for a while, and I've decided that it's time to do something about it. I'm pretty sure it's the rear main bearing. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions about how to replace this seal without pulling the engine. Thanks, Tom
  22. Thanks for the info! I need mine re-lined, but I am thinking that it may be cheaper to buy new shoes on eBay. Thanks again.
  23. Hi guys, I was wondering if the rear brake shoes on a '46-'49 Windsor are interchangeable with those on a '53. Also, If anyone has good brake shoes for a '53 that they would like to sell, I'm in the market for a set. Thanks!
  24. Hi guys, I bought a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe about two months ago. It's my first car, (I'm only 14!) and I've been fixing it up. I've gotten to the point where I need a shop manual to make sure I'm doing everything right. If anyone has a manual that they could part with, for a price, I would appreciate it. Also, if you know where I could get one, that would be good. Thanks, and I'll try to serve my car well.
